To cheer you Jays fan up- I just heard Mike Shillner say on the radio, that the Jays are only 5 games behind the second wild card with 81 games left. This team can turn it around. Be positive guys.

This is a statement that reflects reality. It is also well-deserved. Weird!

Definition of a liar.

Anyone who says they knew along that Smaok would be an all star and the Jays best player in 2017.

No one saw that coming. No one.

Good for Smoakie.

Smoak has 2.1 fWAR.

All of our other position players have a combined 1.9 fWAR.

Smoak is our everything.

That is truly pathetic. Not in a million years would I have seen that coming.

I'm glad to say I was not thrilled with fatty DH signing in the offseason. Fat slow players tick me off. Getting paid millions of dollars to have a worse physical fitness than I do drives me nuts.

Meanwhile Edwin's numbers are creeping back up to normal as he always does after a slow start.

While Morales was never fast, he wasn't fat and slow until he destroyed his ankle. Hard to blame him for being in less than peak shape given that it's the result of a catastrophic injury.

Should we expect teams to start stealing a lot more bases against the Jays now?

Martin is last in the AL in caught stealing %, so teams are already stealing bases at will against the Jays. The only reason they haven't had more bases stolen against them is lack of interest. Teams are hitting home runs at record levels and don't want to risk an out.

Yeah, but he's a professional athlete with practically unlimited training resources available to him. I'm sure he could find some cardio that wouldn't be hindered by a bad ankle. I can see how it could possibly hurt his leg strength, but it's a weak excuse for being 30-40 pounds overweight. I felt the same way about Sandoval and Fielder. There's no excuse to not be in at least above-average shape as a professional athlete.

Morales is fat because he eats too much. This is literally the only reason anybody is fat. I mean, it's not news, he was fat way before we signed him so we shouldn't be surprised. Signing him was a bad idea in the first place anyway you slice it. He's not nearly a good enough hitter to justify his contract considering the only thing he is useful for is hitting the ball far enough that he doesn't need to be able to run.

Yeah I agree. Having overweight slow player just hinders the jays even more especially when they are not doing much at the DH spot atm.

NBA players deal with a ton of ankle injuries, but still stay in shape. Granted, Morales' ankle injury was as severe as it gets, but there's plenty of exercises out there that don't stress the ankle or you could do while wearing an ankle brace. At the end of the day, it's all about being able/willing to make the dietary changes required to lose weight and then exercising to keep it off.

Not expecting Morales to ever be a physical specimen, but there's no reason why he can't lose at least 20-25 pounds from his current weight.
