After a very successful series against the Indians where we were able to significantly downgrade our record to 6th worst overall, the Blue Jays tank will be running into a very stiff challenge against Oakland's tank. The Athletics are neck to neck with us in the standings, and this four game series could determine who has the 5th worst record in baseball by Friday morning.



Fortunately, we'll be starting things off on the right foot by sending out Supreme Tank Commander Francisco Liriano (6.15 ERA) for Game 1 against Chris Smith (2.77 ERA). With Sanchez out, we'll be starting Tank Cadet Cesar Valdez tomorrow against Sonny Gray. I feel very confident going into these first two games. Unfortunately, Stroman could derail the tank in Game 3. But, fear not, as we have Tank Captain Estrada going in Game 4.

Putting my 1-10 RealGM GT record on the line here. Hoping for a 1-3 showing this series at least. Maybe we can trick the Jays into thinking this is a West Coast road trip, that would guarantee us getting swept.

Side note: Game 4 is an afternoon game (12:30 PM EST start), so keep that in mind if you want to watch Estrada's latest implosion.

Finding a way to lose 3 (or, dare I dream, 4) here would be huge.

Philadelphia, San Francisco, Chicago, Cincinnati, San Diego, Oakland and Miami are despicable. They are just blatantly tanking like a bunch of losers, and should be punished for unsportsmanlike and uncompetitive conduct.

That being said, I hope the Jays out-tank all of them.

Yeah, Tank Watch definitely gets a thread post-deadline. Won't clutter things up now; the front page will no doubt be too filled with "Jays trade Liriano for young, controllable starting outfielder" threads.

Looking good so far. Our best tanking tactic is in play: giving up at least one run in the 1st inning.

Seems like a decent crowd for a Monday game against non-contender. Probably 25k to 30k I'm guessing.

He's been nothing short of an atrocity tonight. He's also pitching a one-hitter and isn't losing. The only explanation for this is that we're playing the Athletics.

Carrera has been good this year.

Chris Smith is a nice sneak tank guy. His overall numbers in his brief major league spells aren't that bad, but among pitchers with 100+ career innings from 2005 on, his FIP is 1015th out of 1074.
