MLB Non-Waiver Trade Deadline

Post#1 » by Raps_Swingman » Mon Jul 31, 2017 3:00 pm

Didn't see a thread here for this. But July 31st is the non-waiver deadline.

Some opening material:

The Blue Jays were reportedly “highly unlikely” to trade left-hander J.A. Happ as of two weeks ago, but now they’re open to offers, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag. The Jays aren’t aggressively shopping the 34-year-old, however, as he’s in the midst of another fine season and under control next season for a reasonable $13MM salary.

2:32pm: Sherman tweets that the Jays and Royals had discussed both Liriano and Marco Estrada, but Liriano now looks to be their sole focus. Morosi tweets that other clubs have had interest in Liriano, though there’s no readily apparent indication that talks with other teams have produced any kind of traction.
That's what she said.

Nothing so far on the Jays, and really not surprising, as much of our options are plan C/D and F for Teams.

Also probably being hampered by us wanting players that will help in 2018, which means either someone in Triple A ready to come in and someone off the main rosters, which contention teams aren't about to trade during their stretch run. If we were willing to accept some far off Single A/Double A prospects, we may have/had a couple deals done.

i wonder if they'd look to combining smith with another pitcher (estrada but probably liriano) to get a bit of a better prospect.

MLB Non-Waiver Trade Deadline

Post#6 » by spykelee » Mon Jul 31, 2017 5:19 pm

Are we really going to do **** **** nothing?

Edit: no sooner do I finish posting and refresh my app that I see the stro's are on the verge of acquiring liriano. Glad we are doing something at least but it's a far cry from what should be taking place

One down, I assume it means one of our expiring contracts has been dealt. Next one being Joe Smith.

Trading Liriano might as well be called doing nothing. They're just dumping a portion of his future salary and definitely not getting any great prospects back. And the Jays will still end up with part of his salary on their payroll. At least this is possible with FL, Bautista, Morales, Tulo and Martin are all virtually untradeable.

Most of the starting lineup has negative trade value but if the Jays were really serious about fixing this thing, Happ, Estrada, Pillar, Pence and even Donaldson and Smoak would all be shopped right now but the only player there's even rumblings about is Estrada.

Hopefully the minor leaguer is decent, even like #26 from deep Houston Farm team will be in the 20's in our farm team.
