ST: Also A Very Good Team @ A Not-Very-Good Team | August 8-10

Post#1 » by zilby » Mon Aug 7, 2017 1:06 pm

Good series in Houston to blow a 3-run lead to keep the tank rolling. Frankie forgot briefly on Saturday that he's not on the Jays anymore and he doesn't need to be in tank mode, but Osuna righted the ship. I'm now 0-3 in series threads this season as a result, so I got the juice. We have to destroy the green tank out in Oakland!

Image

Game 1 - Tuesday, August 8th
First pitch 7:07PM

CC Sabathia (9-4, 3.81 ERA) vs. J.A. Happ (4-8, 3.92 ERA)

Game 2 - Wednesday, August 9th
First pitch 7:07PM

Masahiro Tanaka (8-10, 4.93 ERA) vs. Cesar Valdez (1-1, 7.63)

Game 3 - Thursday, August 10th
First pitch 7:07PM

Sonny Gray (6-6, 3.41 ERA) vs. Marco Estrada (4-7, 5.12 ERA)

Definitely a loseable series. I might be going to the game on Thursday to watch Aaron Judge take BP on Estrada. Should be fun to watch if you like watching a good team play baseball, should not be fun if you are hoping the Jays can do things.

So this is the third holiday Monday this season and the third without a Jays day game. One had a night game in the Bronx the other two are off days. Seems like a waste. Yet we get the Thursday afternoon games.
Sucks to your asmar MLB schedulers.

zilby came up in the clutch to lose 2 out of 3 to the Astros. Hopefully he can step it up and go for the sweep.

OT:

Do you guys like the symmetrical field dimension of the rogers centre?

If not, how would you change it?

I would take the outline of the Jays Logo, from the Beak to edge of the Leaf and make that the outfield Wall. The longest distance being between 410 and 415 feet in Right Centre Field.

I'd arrange the fence so that the entirety of the wall forms a silhouette of Kelly Gruber's mullet. Business in left field, party in right.

Zilby saving the tank, one series at a time. I almost wrecked it with that Oakland sweep.

Starting Valdez is a blatant tank move. They could easily start Biagini for 3-4 innings, or use four relievers for two innings apiece.
As a fan I resent having to watch Valdez get shelled.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

same here. Clearly a tank move. Valdez is hard to watch. He'll get shelled against the Yankees.

Also shows you how poor our pitching depth is. This needs to be addressed for next season.

Well, they are stretching out Biagini in Buffalo, and he gave up two runs in three innings. He's certainly better than Valdez, but it might be hard to stretch him out at the major league level without destroying his confidence. It's a process.

Here's hoping for a 1-0, 15-2, and 1-0 series.

Stretching Biagini out in Buffalo also has a possible side benefit: we might gain an extra year of team control. Worthwhile tradeoff for a handful of Valdez starts in a lost season.

If we sweep this series and the seven teams between us and a playoff spot manage not to gain ground, heh. Being 5 back isn't the fatal bit (though that would be extremely difficult to overcome), but rather the fact that there's two teams tied for the WC, plus teams 1.0, 1.5, 2.5, 3.0, and 4.0 back.

Four Roberto Osuna blown saves since the break pretty much killed any chance they had. Obviously he's not going to be perfect, but if he saves even 3 of those, the Jays are right in it, despite all the bad stuff that has happened to them.

As far as tanking, how about they have no other arms other than Valdez? Biagini needs to be monitored and stretched out since he will be a rotation candidate next season. They have no one else. Have to ride with Valdez until Sanchez comes back or Biagini comes up.

How is it possible that Valdez is scheduled for another start?

Blue Jays place Cesar Valdez on 10-day DL, recall Campos

So who starts in place of him?

Wow, Judge practically makes Smoak look like a midget.
