Nine games left against Boston. Go 5-4 against them and 22-14 against everyone else leaves us at 83-79 which might be enough. Doable, but unlikely. Rowley would have to keep them consistently in it, and we'd need a solution to Tepesch/Valdez/etc having ~9 starts left. We can't afford to get blown out every fifth day, particularly against Boston. There are four off-days left, so we could cut that down to 5. Then if you can add Sanchez, Ramirez, Biagini, Mayza and other reinforcements in September you can get that number closer to zero (pitch games by committee out of the pen). A healthy Travis would be a huge boost too.

3 out of 4 is a must. I just don't think we'll get it done this series. Tampa has always played well against us.

Tough break for Cole. Guy spends 6 years in the minors, finally gets his shot, throws a turkey and gets the boot. I wonder if there was a handshake agreement involved to get him off the 40-man, but re-sign him to a minor league deal in the winter.

Campos needed to go. Happy to see Mayza called up. He's a good kid and has solid numbers in the minors. Need that extra bullpen arm in case one of our rookies implodes this week.

Doubt there's a handshake agreement, but it's unfortunately how they had to do it: you cannot demote an injured player, so to free up his roster spot, they had to unconditionally release him. Good chance they do try to re-sign him, though.

OT
I don't like the expanded Rosters in September, it's the most important part of the year, and teams can use an additional 15 guys if they want.
At the very least they should have a 25 man active roster for September, including the 4 starters that aren't playing that night, just so each team is playing with 25 on any given day.

Now would be the time to get Tepesch out of there. If you want to win the game.

Tepesch has been incredibly lucky tonight. Putting him out there in the seventh is really pushing your luck, Gibby. I would have lifted him after 5, if not sooner.

How did they rule that a double play? 2B became unoccupied when they forced the runner. He's perfectly able to be safe on second after that, unless I am very much mistaken.
It's definitely not an infield fly, though.
Edit: now they got it right, but I have no idea how they got it wrong in the first place.

Loup against Longoria? Really?
Edit: Worked out. Team is winning in spite of Gibby's terrible decision making tonight.

Loup vs. Longoria with the bases loaded not a matchup I expected him to win. Well done Loup

I get how that could be kinda tough at first glance. They got it right, I'm only surprised it took so long during the actual review to come to what should've been a very clear conclusion.
Yeah, Jays have gotten very lucky so far tonight. Either winneryness, or implosion is overdue and on the way.
