After coming up with the Blue Jays in 1998, Halladay played 12 full seasons for Toronto, making the All-Star team six times and winning the AL Cy Young in 2006. He is second in Blue Jays franchise history in wins (148), strikeouts (1,495) and shutouts (15) and is third in starts (287), innings pitched (2,046.2) and complete games (49).

After the 2009 season, Toronto traded Halladay to the Phillies, where he continued to baffle hitters and pitch deep into games with pinpoint accuracy. Halladay won the NL Cy Young in his first season with the Phillies and finished second in the award's voting in his second year there.

For his career, Halladay finished with a 203-105 record with a 3.38 ERA and 2,117 strikeouts in 2,749.1 innings pitched. He was an eight-time All-Star.

Halladay will become the second Blue Jay to have his number raised in a banner alongside Alomar.

Great on the organization. Very sad it had to come under such circumstances, but you have to think it would’ve happened anyway.

I'm still in favour of only retiring the number of players who make the HOF wearing a Jays cap - ala Alomar. Others like Bell, Fernandez, Stieb, etc get the Level of Excellence. Hopefully this move by the Jays is predictive.

Halladay's a mortal lock to make the Hall. 38th all-time in pitcher fWAR leaves him behind some fringe HoFers, but that's mostly because he didn't rack up the innings count of most. Instead, he had a decade-long peak where he averaged nearly 6 fWAR a year and won two CYAs, which is more than enough to get him in. Even before he died, I'd have been surprised if it took more than two ballots; now, I'd be surprised if he doesn't make it in his first year of eligibility.

He was a lock for me. I am always biased as he is my favorite athlete of all time but that aside he was still a lock in my mind to be a first ballot. If he wasnt i would be shocked.

Arguably the Greatest Blue Jay in history.

And there’s not much to argue about there.
