Corey Dickerson DFA. (Too late?)

Post#1 » by North_of_Border » Sun Feb 18, 2018 4:23 am

The Rays made a head scratching move. They trade a player to be named later for CJ Cron of the Angels to be their DH. Then they DFA Dickerson. A superior hitter with a long good track record. And was an all star in 2017. He hit .290 with 27 HR..... Cron hit .246 with 16 homers and that is his track record the past 3 seasons. A bust... Dickerson salary for 2018 5.3 million. Cron 2.8 million. Shockingly an odd odd move.

Rays made a stupid move. But boy would he look good in left field for the Jays. Too late though?

Don't know what the Rays were thinking. I suppose they can trade him just the same now as they could before, but they have a LOT less leverage to do so because if they don't work out a deal over the next 10 days they have to pay him $1M to play for somebody else. If we can get him then it is an obvious move, IMO. He's a better hitter and baserunner than Morales and can play the OF. Problem is it's an obvious move for every team.

They’re trying to save money and tank.
Unfortunately it’s a bit late for the Jay. Don’t think Rogers can stomach another DH contract and we have a horde of people fighting over LF..
Granderson, Pierce, Zeke, T Hernandez, Pompey, Alford.
Grichuk is most likely in RF.

Dickerson is a good player and definitely worth the @6m Tampa Bay is paying him, but he’s arb eligible and will get a hefty raise after 2018

At the very least they could have traded him for a couple of mid level prospects and given up 100% of his already low salary to another team. They would of had the leverage. Now they are desperate to dump him or they lose him anyway.

Odd move.... someone needs to be fired before they go all Jeter-esq.

They wouldn’t have traded a good player into the same division though

From the way things went down, it looks like they don’t value him too much. Probably doesn’t qualify for an off limits in division type of guy.

I mean the Jays coulda offered much better than what they’ll get now. Possibly nothing. Or minimal.
