Maverik Buffo gets some much-deserved recognition

Post#1 » by Schad » Thu Mar 29, 2018 1:31 am

The voting isn't live yet, but Jays prospect Maverik Buffo will be a 13 seed in the 2018 Name of the Year competition:

https://deadspin.com/presenting-the-2018-name-of-the-year-bracket-1824140540

He faces off against Chardonnay Beaver in the first round, in a bracket that has some quality contenders (La Royce Lobster-Gaines and Quindarious Gooch are the stuff Key and Peele sketches are made of) but lacks the all-conquering firepower in other regions...there's no Dr. Narwhals Mating or Reverend Dongo Pewee in his future unless he makes the Final Four.

Going to guess that it's pronounced like Salome. The individual appears to be a woman from Nigeria, which is the world capital of truly fantastic names.

Is anybody here a marine biologist?

The only good bracket of the year.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Maverik is getting crushed by Chardonnay Beaver, unfortunately. Even the power of the Toronto RealGM contingent isn't likely to drag him to victory, but throw him a few votes.

Chardonnay Beaver is a tough draw. Not so long ago the Name of the Year overall champion was Tanqueray Beavers. Poor Maverik, he doesn't stand a chance. I got 99 problems, but alcohol-related beaver issues ain't one. Hit me.

I gotta admit Chardonnay Beaver is a superior name. If only because it's so reminiscent of this Tim and Eric bit:

So, I followed the links to see who some of these people are, and Devoid Couch made the news because his license was suspended owing to a failure to pay a fine. I guess the cushions were empty.

(Also, the cycle of debt resulting from little fines is terrible, and exists mostly so that municipalities in the States can wring cash out of their residents)

I mean this is no longer even remotely Jays related but if a Sweet Sixteen matchup between Salami Blessing and Miracle Crimes doesn't get your adrenaline pumping I don't wanna know what you do for fun.

Miracle Crimes is so ridiculously underseeded. We're having the championship bout in the Round of 16. Ridiculous.

Yeah, that's the sort of seeding you used to see for that ridiculously good mid-major that would have been a third or fourth seed if the played in the ACC.

Elite Eight is looking like it'll be extremely good even without poor Miracle Crimes, though I'm not sure about the voters' preference for Gandalf Hernandez over the excellent Dr. Taekwondo Byrd.
