Tied with the Yankees now, two days after the season was deemed over. Baseball is definitely back.

Were the Jays ever a .500 team last season, even for a day?

Fangraphs projects them to finish with 85 wins and the 2nd WC. I guess it depends on how you define good.

Yeah, the issue many of us have isn't that we're bad, but that we're also not great at a point where greatness might be the necessary threshold. Being the fifth-best team in the AL means a roughly 1-in-5 chance of playing in a playoff round.

No, but we were a one game away from .500 team plenty of times. Always lost the game that would've brought us to .500

If the starting pitching stays healthy, that should put the team over .500. And at that point you’re hoping for JD and Martin to stay relatively healthy to keep the offense middle of the pack and you can always patch together a bullpen to be in the playoff hunt But you can’t patch together SP on the fly.

The Royals won a World Series. Greatness isn't a necessary threshold to any kind of success in this league.

Rogers smiling after today's game. What an at bat by Smoak. Fun game to watch.

Damn, I turned it off when it was 4-1; had no idea the Jays came back to win.

85 wins is not out of the question. Jays should win at least 80 games, barring a sell-off/teardown in July.

There is going to be one team after the top 4 in the AL who emerges into the 85-87 win range to win the 2nd wild card. Might be the Jays. Might be the Twins. Might be the Angels. Might be some other surprise team. Way too early to tell, but the Jays at least have a chance to be that team.

So is it going to be funny this year watching all these first time managers fall flat on their face?

that and, other that one outfielder, there not being any hold-on-hope prospects in the line-up.
it's not a team that will have many exciting stories other than whether or not we trade Donaldson before the deadline.

Vlad Guerrero Jr. is the best hitting prospect in baseball over the past decade and could likely enter the majors right now and hit just fine. Follow him in AA for the first three months if you want to follow a high level prospect, but he'll be up soon enough.

Imagine Gift Ngeope winning ALCS MVP. That's our future. You just have to believe.
