April 16-18: Return of the prodigal son Ryan Goins vs Dome Sweet Home

Post#1 » by dagger » Sun Apr 15, 2018 5:06 pm

Royals, Blue Jays, Return of Ryan Goins, a dome for a home - what could be better for a Monday in April?

April 16 - 7:07 pm, Rogers Sportsnet. (It's hockey night so who knows where Rogers is showing this game)

Danny Duffy (0-2, 5.40 ERA) vs Jaime Garcia (1-0, 3.18 ERA)

April 17 - 7:07 pm, Rogers Sportsnet (It's always hockey night, also Raps on tSN)

Ian Kennedy (1-0, 1.00 ERA) vs Jay Happ, (2-1, 3.94 ERA)

April 18 - 4:07 pm, Rogers Sportsnet (Bet the game doesn't finish before the Leafs game starts)

Jason Hammel (0-1, 3.86 ERA) vs Aaron Sanchez (1-1, 3.66 ERA)

Someone in the US media had an interesting observation about the April weather and this year's rash of postponements. Apparently, the number of April bad weather days has increased - and of course, MLB decided to start the season in the last few days of March. However, early November weather has been pretty good. In 2016, the Indians played an early November WS game in 70-degree sunshine. You would think that moving to a 154-game schedule, starting in mid-April, with the WS lasting into at least the first few days of November, would be beneficial and also not particularly impactful economically. No one goes to weekday games in April, and teams pay for travel and hotels for partially completed series, which is expensive. the Jays could have spent one night in a hotel instead of three on this road trip, plus per diems for doing nothing but watch the NBA playoffs in a bar.

Stop dagger you are making too much sense. Are you telling me fans dont like watching games in minus weather and players dont like playing in snow?

All new stadiums that are being built should have a retractable roof and until then the start of the season should be played in roofed stadiums or warm climate areas. The MLB is really stupid having the games start this soon into spring and expect games to happen in northern cities in March and April.

If Ryan Goins had caught that popup, would David Price have won that game?

I can't forget it. That's the closest to a championship I've seen the Jays get in my lifetime lol.

We got screwed on that fan leaning over the fence on that homerun. Revere and Navarro got screwed in that 9th inning too.

You might not believe this, but there is a chance tonight's game will be postponed because of conditions around the stadium.

Scary to think ice can puncture through a stadium roof like that. Imagine if that landed on a vehicle carrying passengers, or people walking by. Damn..

I hate Canadian weather. It so damn depressing.. :(

Tell me about it. Three days in a row without a baseball game mid-season would be borderline torture.

I love the winter. I just hate the month of slush before and after - and sometimes during.

If they do play, definitely set up for one of the lowest attendances in a long time. Perfect storm of factors:

- Monday night game in mid April
- playing a bad team that isn’t much of a draw
- Leafs playoff game down the street
-crappy weather with iffy road conditions
-uncertainty all day if there is even going to be a game
