3000+ hits in the majors and 57.4 fWAR after only joining the majors at 27 is a hell of a career. Only the rubberiest of rubber stamps for his HoF bid. Did virtually all of that damage hitting .331/.376/.430 in his first ten years, which was one hell of a ten-year peak given his speed and defense.

Also, he pitched an inning at age 42 and threw 87, which was neat.

Great player in his prime, but really should have retired after his first stint in Seattle was over. 10 years as a superstar, and then 8 years as a scrub. An obvious Hall of Famer because that peak was incredible, though. This generation's Tony Gwynn. I don't know if we'll continue to see guys like that anymore.

I'm good with him continuing to play. By his own admission, he simply didn't know what he'd do with himself if it wasn't playing baseball, so he was going to keep playing until someone wrestled the bat out of his hand. Don't think he really gave a damn how it affected his career averages.

Logged-in and replied for first time in years to say that Ichiro was my favourite player for a long stretch. It would have been very interesting to see what his numbers would have been if he played his 21-27 years over here. What a stud.
