May 28-30 Beancounter boys vs Beantowner boys

The Jays may suck at home, which doesn't help lure paying customers to the RC, but on the road they are, well, slightly better, sometimes.
The darling of the Rogers' beancounters now take their reinvigorated starting rotation and sassy bullpen to Boston for three games against the best team (right now) in baseball.

They’re like 7.5 games behind the 2nd wild card, and now we get the Beantowner boys, that’s not good.

I don''t want to identify too closely with anyone on this year's roster

Or their roles - I mean Russell Martin is starting in LF today. It's a farewell tour, different city, different position.

Maile, in my mind, is fool's gold. He's a backup who got off to a big start, and is now calming down and will end up being a .220 hitter, which may be optimistic. But with Martin hitting so poorly, we're reduced to playing Maile, improvising places for Martin to play (sub-optimally). This is the new Blue Jay Way. Don't tank, but don't try to rebuild. Play mediocre ball with familiar faces. I give this a month before the beancounters are going to have to swallow it and let the rebuild begin.
None of this speaks of a near-term future. Except in emergency situations, the best prospects are being kept away from this steaming pile. The only question is when does Shapiro or Atkins formally announce the beginning of the course change by eating some salary or making a trade or two.

Think Martin's current tour as a utilityman is more about Jansen than Maile. We're going to want Jansen starting behind the plate two-thirds of the time or thereabouts, so we're trying to find out whether we can work Martin in enough that he doesn't become a hideously overpaid backup.

I get that, but it's sub-optimal because wherever we park his $20 million ass, the Team D suffers and his O just isn't there. For the sake of keeping him busy (and happy) we have two guys on the bench (Smith and Pompey) who can lap him in a 100-yard dash

Luckily, it doesn't really matter, because this team isn't going anywhere. So long as we don't give the old guys ABs over the good young players when they're up.

If it's limited to this year, I agree, but if it carries over to next year, it would impact player development. I don't care about wins and losses this year, but I do think we need the prospects to actually play, even if it's a left handed bat against a LHP. Otherwise this should stay in BUF. Meanwhile Grichuk, IMO, is also blocking prospects. He has two Ks today so far in NH and may be the weakest bat through the first six in that lineup. But the Jays are going to flog him in the hope he can become even marginal trade bait.

Trading Pillar -- which we absolutely should do -- leaves room for all involved at the moment. It'd be a problem if Alford showed signs of being ready, but he looks like he could really use most of a season in AAA.
And we do need to get Morales and Martin off the roster for next year, IMO. Morales just needs to be DFA'd, and Martin is a candidate for the sort of trade where we eat all but a couple mil of his contract, and for our troubles receive a 27 year old left-handed reliever with no legs or something.

At what point do we tell Sanchez to start throwing his curve like he did last season? **** the blisters guy sucks without his good curve.

Well, at least Maile didn't miss by a little. Maybe he should play left field.
Yes, and Martin certainly looks comfortable out there.
