July 10-15: The last road trip (before the All-Star break)

Post#1 » by dagger » Mon Jul 9, 2018 1:19 pm

Atlanta and Boston - a tough way to showcase talent for trades. The Jays aren't exactly a threat to raze Atlanta. Where is General Sherman when we need him? (Useless Factoid: there have been only three major league players with the last name Sherman, none of whom were in the majors for more than a season, and none in this century. In fact, there have been more Schwartz's, Sheas, Shaws and Sheehans than Shermans.)

I'll update this thread as the Jays move on to the second stop - starters still not determined for all games this week)

Too bad Happ has fallen apart right before the all-star break. He was arguably deserving of a selection on his own merits before, but now it looks like a, "Well, someone had to be selected from the Jays" kind of pick. Hopefully it doesn't hurt his trade value too much.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

what a disaster this season has been so far.. we have the oldest team in baseball 3rd year in a row and counting.. injuries have been a problem as well. i can't wait until the Martin, Tulo, Morales, Donaldson contracts are gone for good. lets go young and start building around Guerrero JR and Bichette.

Happ’s on pace for a 3 war season. Era is worse than his secondary numbers. I don’t think his value is shot after a couple of bad starts. If it continues then maybe but we will see.

Oh might end up being the most valuable trade chip for the Jays. He’s killing it right now and has a cheap option for next year.

Braves lost first place to the Phillies, NL is going to be a wild ending I think.

S. Gaviglio is trash. Poor outing tonight. Only lasted 1.2 innings. 6ER.

Ill take 0.4 WAR from a guy picked off waivers who was was your 7th or 8th starter when you got him. And is now your 4th starter with all the injuries and ineffectiveness from Biagini. Once everyone is healthy going forward he is likely your 6th starter, not bad considering he costs you nothing and close to nothing in terms of salary.

Pretty much. A gift horse. He wasn't going to shine every start.

Estrada has been removed from his Saturday start. Jays will need to scrounge a pitcher. Either a callup to go with Gaviglio who can come off short rest since he hardly pitched last night

Happ has been charged with 5 earned runs right now. But none of them should be earned runs. Inning should have been over, if not for the BS play at second.

Nightmare season continues. Our lone all-star representative goes to the game sporting a 4.71 ERA.

That should go down substantially. Hopefully they change those to unearned runs, which they were.

Edit: they’ve now all been changed to unearned runs.

No scout worth a damn would be down on Happ after that start. He was hosed big time. His only mistake was to a great hitter after throwing like 45 pitches in that inning. An inning he should have been out of well before that. Everything else was non hard hit singles. If Travis or Smoak don’t make those stupid mistakes then his line is completely different.

On another note, James Paxton left his start tonight in the first inning. If he has to miss time I’m sure the M’s would look at Happ.

The five runs were indeed unearned and his ERA actually went down.

Oldest team in baseball + overpaid players + injuries = unwatchable. Season over yet??

This is the first time in a long time that I have lost interest in baseball and the Blue Jays. And I've been watching baseball for a long time. Was lucky enough to be around the time they won their 1st and 2nd world series. (25 years ago.. sighh) Just don't see it happening again anytime soon with NY and Boston in the same division and all that depth both teams have.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
