July 30-Aug 5: Jays @ A's @ Mariners - Team Underachievement vs Teams Overachieving

Post#1 » by dagger » Mon Jul 30, 2018 3:21 am

July 30 - Aug 1:

The Jays (48-56) finally get to make a difference in a pennant race - though not their own.

The A's (61-46), followed by the Mariners. Seattle looked to have second wildcard wrapped up, but the A's have made a fight of it.

Monday, July 30, 10:05 pm EDT
Marco Estrada (4-7, 4.72 ERA) vs Edwin Jackson (1-2, 3.86 ERA)

Tuesday, July 31, 10:05 pm EDT

Sam Gavliglio (2-3, 4.65 ERA) vs Trevor Cahill, (2-2, 3.43 ERA)

Wednesday, Aug 1, 3:35 pm EDT

Marcus Stroman (4-7, 5.20 ERA) vs Sean Manaea (9-7, 3.46 ERA)

Separate thread for each series are for winners. Losers who don't even have a starter for Thursday night's game get tacked on the end of the previous series,

Thursday, Aug 2, 10:10 pm EDT
The Blue Jays don't have a starter here. They don't even have John Axford. Lots of luck with that.

Friday, Aug 3, 10:10 pm EDT
Ryan Borucki (0-2, 2.83 ERA) vs Marco Gonzalez (12-5, 3.37 ERA)

Saturday, Aug 4, 10:10 pm EDT
Marco Estrada (4-8, 4.90 ERA) vs James Paxton (9-4, 3:49 ERA)

Sunday, Aug 5, 4:10 pm EDT
Sam Gaviglio (2-4, 5:10 ERA) vs Mike Leake (8-7, 4:16 ERA)

It seems Travis must be injured. They put in Russell Martin instead of him yesterday, and now Martin at 3rd and Drury to 2nd tonight.

Martin is batting .182 and Gibby is batting him 2nd??

That's gotta be the lowest average in franchise history for a player that's played the majority of the season

No thanks to the Gurriel injury. Martin is 10th in the league in walk rate(bb%) and 3rd in %o-swing(taking pitches out of the zone). Still gets on base more than half our lineup. But yes he has a low batting average and has had some difficulty driving pitches in the zone.

Chris Davis is batting .158 for the Orioles.

What outfielders do you guys think will be up in September? There are so many guys in AAA. Smith is up now(as far as I know), other options are McKinney, Alford, Jonathan Davis, and Pompey.

Might see Pompey or McKinney. Alford's still a hot mess; I'd be surprised if they called him up, simply because I don't think it's in his best interests to be exposed to major league pitching in his current state. Davis is also a possibility, given that he'll need to be added to the 40-man in any instance.

Yeah, I agree about Alford. Davis deserves a shot, imo.

Teoscar is quite the adventure in the outfield.

They said it would be closer to three weeks than six weeks yesterday. Does that tweet means the original diagnosis was wrong again or did he word that tweet badly because no one ever said it was a day to day thing?

I have been to about 8 road games and they have won once. That includes blowing a big lead again the Pirates and been crushed by the Reds so I know how you feel.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
