Gibbons done at the end of the season or week?

Post#1 » by phillipmike » Thu Aug 9, 2018 3:53 am

Many reports suggest Gibbons will not be the manager next season or even as early as next week.

Read on Twitter

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Blue Jays "seem destined" to move on from manager John Gibbons after the season.

Gibbons led Toronto to consecutive playoff appearances in 2015 and 2016 but now the Jays are moving toward a rebuild and they'll likely begin that transition with a new manager. Including his previous stint with the team, Gibbons has served 11 years as Toronto's skipper. Dusty Baker, John Farrell, Joe Girardi and Mike Matheny would be among the top candidates to replace Gibbons, assuming the Jays move on from him this offseason. Aug 7 - 9:01 AM

Sounds like he will be gone (whether mutual or fired) soon.

He won’t be fired before the end of the season.

I personally think he might "mutually" step down and walk away. If he isn't going anywhere this season then Atkins could have easily said he will be the manager until the end of the season.

Lmao. I’m guessing they’re just listing some of the biggest names available.

If the Jays bring back Farrell?

Thats gotta be Ken Rosenthal trolling....I'd rather have Gibbons locked up to a life time contract.

I’m not even 100% certain that part is from Ken Rosenthal. Might just be from Rotoworld adding their own speculation.

End of the year. No point firing him now unless he's mailing it in.

And yeah, almost threw up when I saw that list. Someone was definitely trolling with the inclusion of John Farrell.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Hale is #1 for me if Gibbons is gone. Girardi is #2 and a new coach would be #3 for me. Heard names like Carlos Beltran (who was a finalist for the Yankees job), Mark De Rosa, Sean Casey and John McDonald (Jays and Cleveland/Shapiro connection).

John is made for the Washington job. His personality will make everything click. He does deserve better. He does often look uninterested when in the dugout.

Atkins has said Gibbons remains in the Blue Jays plans moving ahead. For this season at least. I for one would like to see a change. Like Lateral said, no point in firing him now unless he's not interested in managing the team anymore. Not easy being a manager in the majors that's for sure.

How in the world could they possibly hire Farrell again? Didn’t he set the clubhouse on fire when he left?

That said, it is the Jay’s way to hire a manager twice. Is Buck Martinez interested?

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

Jeff Blair said they want someone who is more analytically inclined and bilingual

I dont see the point in firing Gibbons now.

Girrardi would be an A-List hiring. Jays should be all over this. He is perfect guy to be around when the team turns the corner in a couple of years.

Plan A: Girardi
Plan B: think of another plan

Maybe they plan on assigning him to another role after this season.
