Mitchell Report: Blue Jays dodge bullet with Vladdy Jr.'s latest knee injury; Pearson promoted - TSN.ca

“They got the MRI on me and it was nothing major, just a little bit of inflammation in my knee,” Guerrero Jr. said through team translator Tito Lebron. “I feel a lot better today. We’re just going to be cautious about it and when I’m ready to go, I’m ready to go.”

“I felt a little tweak on that play with me and Bo,” Guerrero Jr. said. “Spoke with the trainers in between innings and felt a little bit uncomfortable. They just want to be cautious on that.”

Considering it’s the same knee that cost him five weeks last season in Double-A due to a patellar tendon strain, the Jays exhaled when the imaging showed only minor irritation in the joint.

“It was totally different from last year,” Guerrero Jr. said. “I wouldn’t be standing here. The one last year, I couldn’t even walk last year, pretty much. I’m good. It’s just something we all want to be cautious about and, hopefully, I’ll be back in the lineup very soon."

“When I feel that my knee is fully recovered, I’m going to go out there.”

Expect the Blue Jays to be cautious, but the decision not to put him on the 10-day injured list says a lot.

Was trying to make this pic smaller. Had to upload it elsewhere.

Guerrero Jr.'s off-season plan includes losing ‘15 to 20 pounds’

“He’s a big guy and he’s athletic, but something Vladdy told me last night is, ‘I’m going to go this off-season and get in the best shape possible and you’ll see me next year. I’m going to be a different guy,’” Febles relayed. “He wants to be good and he knows what he needs to do. His dad already told him. He said, ‘My dad is already on top of me about it.’ You’ll see him. He’ll be better because he’s hungry.”

Does Vladdy have two kids? His Instagram seems to imply he does. WTF?

No idea. Vladdy has an established habit of trolling fans on Instagram, so it can be a bit tricky to separate fact from fiction.

I have to agree with this piece. Fair or not, the bar is incredibly high for him and he fell well short in his rookie year. Also fair or not, he'll be compared to Acuna forever, and we know how great that guy has been. I **** hate the Braves, so I can only hope Acuna is peaking early and that Vladdy's ceiling is much higher.

He definitely had his struggles. For awhile all people cared about was when he was going to be called up. Even the MLBPA's Tony Clark got involved and tried speaking with jays management to call him up sooner. But here we are at the end of his age 20 season and everyone that wanted him called up better not be the ones complaining he's not performaing well. Or not even talking about it anymore period.

The raw talent is there but they need to work on his swing and mentality the plate. He was producing way too much soft contact for someone with that much power and bat speed.

Basically, the only thing Vlad's missing offensively is the one thing most expected of him. If you compare him to the other young stars-in-waiting from recent years, he has a better K-BB than the vast majority, but a much lower isolated power, in large part because he hits the ball on the ground too much.

His number this year were disappointing, but not alarming. He does the tricky parts well, and now just needs to tap into his top-of-the-scale power.

i think part of the 'problem' is his contact rate. He can make contact with any pitch reasonably well except the low outside ones. However pitches up in the zone and outside are not being hit for much power so far.

%90 contact rate with anything up in the zone but not much power. The low outside pitch is a tough one because he appears to try to hit the breaking ball before it breaks but these are breaking more than he's used to. It might be advantageous to take those high strikes in 0 or 1 strike counts but is a good thing to have in your back pocket when 2 strikes are on you.

Looks like he needs to move closer to the plate. He's making much better contact on pitches off the plate inside than he is on the outside part of the zone itself.

Weight lifting!

Maybe curves are breaking more than he's used to, I didn't see him play much in minor league games but I'd assume he was standing at a similar position.
