No, mainly because he publicly said stroman and sanchez were in trade talks. You dont make statements like these. You shut your mouth and work behind the scenes like every good GM but he's a rookie and doesn't know how to handle the media yet

You keep saying that Atkins is a rookie. He very much isn't.

And all he said publicly was that Stroman and Sanchez are available for the right price. It's really common for GMs to use the media to make the availability of their players known.

It's not all that common to specifically mention names of your young players. Any smart GM wouldn't be doing that. There's ways to be savvy through the media and speak on general terms ie. looking at every possibility of all the players. Using names doesn't do any justice. Just seems idiotic.

Your comment was posted in a theead where he was spreaking specifically about Tulowitski, yet now you’re trying to claim that your opinion was based on other comments/situations? Very odd.

Go read my posts in this thread and then you'll understand.

Using their names actually does have a purpose: it means that they won't be blindsided when it leaks that we're in serious negotiations on a trade later.

Give me a break lol. Now you guys are just talking stupid.

Go look at the tweet he liked earlier today. Just goes to show the stupidity by our GM. Small things like this can impact the players. You gotta make them feel comfortable not let them be on their toes and cause friction.

Make them feel comfortable, such that when they're traded it becomes a whole big and idiotic thing, as with DeRozan? We're almost certainly going to move Stroman and Sanchez, either this year or next, because both are free agents after next season, and neither is a good candidate for a pre-FA extension.

We have different opinions on how you are supposed to lead as a GM. Let's leave it at that.

For those of us who don't have Twitter, please provide at least a link or just copy and paste here in the forum.

And if they don't get traded? Who cares how Demar feels. Masai is better GM that Atkins, its better to keep things quiet in case they don't happen.

Baseball's executive suites leak like crazy. The concern isn't a situation where they get traded; it's a situation where they find out from Twitter that we're entertaining offers for them (and we are). We're setting expectations both for our players and for other GMs...we're a rebuilding club, and as a rebuilding club none of our players with limited team control are off limits.
