Couldn't even get some movie passes for him. Anyway, I'm happy that saga is over.

So, that'd be why we sent a shot across Tulo's bow. He didn't want to be a part-time player, and presumably wasn't willing to take a buyout, so we just straight-up released him.

I guess there was no way out of that contract, but still surprised we ate all of it

Once we'd established that Tulo had no interest in being anything but a starting shortstop, there really wasn't another option. No team was going to trade for him under those circumstances, because no team was going to hand him a starting job. Having an old, malcontent player kicking around didn't really serve our purposes, and he weren't going to save any money on his deal, so might as well kick him to the curb.

Good move. Now we can concentrated on developing our young shortstops.

We were going to be paying him regardless. His contract was a sunk cost; there was zero point in keeping him as a bench player just to justify the awful trade the previous GM made.

Was thinking along the same line.
I’m not sure if Cleveland ever released a player with 38 Mill left on the contract in this manner. Shatkins flexing their big boy pants

It was so fun to watch Ross answer Hazel just yesterday as to whether Troy was in the Jays' plans for 2019. Ross: "Oh, for sure. Right now we just want to make sure Troy is getting himself healthy...." He couldn't have sped through the words "oh, for sure" any faster if he tried. Meanwhile he's already got a very big check signed by Rogers tucked in his breast pocket. LOL

Watch him agree to be a utility player for another team. It's either that or forced retirement for him.

Sources telling me that the first call Tulo received after the news broke was from Pablo Sandoval...

I remember Tulo's first game as a Jay, where he hit that homer.

And it all went downhill from there. His most memorable moment is probably that collision with Pillar.
