Free Agents Still Unsigned

Why are so many big names still unsigned? I'm not usually the biggest baseball fan but it's getting frustrating. Are these guys planning to hold out into Spring Training?

Couple things are happening. One is that spending on free agents has crashed the past couple years, which means that many of the top free agents are still waiting for what they consider to be an acceptable offer. The second is that their slow-developing market is having a knock-on effect, because teams don't want to commit their remaining budgets until they are officially out of the race for the cream of the crop.

With that being said do you think the Blue Jays have a chance to sign one of them? We do need another SP and help in the bullpen.

No. We aren't going to spend $20m/year on a player in his 30s at this juncture, nor should we.

maybe not $20m/year but someone on the cheap for say $4m or less. It's possible. the longer this takes and the larger the FA list is the more likely this may happen. just saying. let's see what happens.

I wouldn't be surprised if we signed someone on the cheap. But, like, someone for $4m would be a reclamation project like Jeremy Hellickson (and that'd probably include incentives), not a big name.

Jeremy Hellickson signs for a deal that, with incentives, will reach $4m if he starts 30 games. I am a sorcerer.
