They're saying minor league deal, but presumably it comes with a fairly healthy guarantee if he makes the roster. Stockpiling vet relievers isn't a bad idea if you have a few mil to burn and want flippable assets, though they don't go for quite as much as they once did.

He's serviceable. Hard to believe he can't do better than a minor league invite somewhere.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Had 28 save for the Cards last season. Insurance in case Giles implodes. Giles had an awful outing today.

Thought it would be a major league deal. I wouldnt have started a thread on a minor league deal.

Might as well be a major league deal. Guessing it's got a $2-3m guarantee if he makes the roster, given that Norris has a solid enough track record, and he'll almost assuredly make the roster. Just gives us some 40-man flexibility for the next few weeks.

Nice pickup in Buchholz. He had a strong comeback season with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2018. Solid mid-rotation starter. 7-2 with a 2.01 ERA in 16 starts.

Doesn't look like Borucki will be starting with the big club in 2019.

Buchholz has had a really up and down career, last year being very much on the up side. Depending on the terms this is a solid addition, and another sign Stroman and/or Sanchez are likely on the outs.

You know, outside Richard, that actually has the makings of a pretty solid rotation.

At peak, though most rotations are good if you take their best results. Buchholz's claim to fame is that he's wildly inconsistent; his averages are basically that of a league-average starter, but split between good and bad years.

It's also probably the most injury-riddled in baseball. Richard's the only one of the five to throw anything close to a full season in 2018, so while the likes of Borucki might not be starting the year with the Jays, I'd expect that he'll get his innings in.

That said, if you're a team that is going to suck, Shoemaker and Buchholz are the sort of players you want to be picking up. Maybe a third or half the time, you get a reasonable trade asset (or more) out of the deal, and once every 30 years or so you become the 2018 A's.

Knowing what we know about 3rd time through order results and the opener, what’s the best way you would arrange a pitching staff if you were the jays and didn’t have to worry about hurting feelings. Piggybacking an option you’d consider? Multiple rp that can pitch 4ip per week and appear in 2 games?

I don't want to hear a word from Shapiro or Atkins about leadership or clubhouse when they sign known POS and likely racist Bud Norris.

Like the Buccholz signing, though.

Norris is an absolute piece of ****. Ironically, being a piece of **** is why a lot of people in baseball consider him to be a leader, because he directs it at younger players.
