Kevin Pillar says an emotional goodbye to the Toronto media, says this is all he knows, but is very excited to start his next chapter in San Francisco, and be closer to his family.

I'm assuming they probably like this De Paula guy.

anyone know what Keith Law said about De Paula here? (even though I never agree with his hot takes)

Pillar grinded his way to the Majors and was a contributor on this team when we we're basically devoid of a CF. A true 32nd round pick and a Blue Jay at every level. Wish him the best, this roster won't be recognizable by August.
That's what she said.

Brito in that Buffalo lineup could do some damage

Juan De Paula basically a lotto ticket.

There’s an element to sport — even a sport as quantifiable as baseball — where entertainment factor can lift a player up and make him a fan favorite. Pillar was that guy.

That catch reel says it all. Some great memories out there in center field.

Well said man. My feelings exactly. Everyone knew it was a matter of when, and not if, in terms of moving Pillar. For his sake, he is moving to California, where it is closer to home. Wish him all the best.

Sounds like an interesting arm, though his pathway is probably in the 'pen given his control issues/limited repertoire; he's another that'll need to move relatively quickly, as his Rule 5 reckoning is approaching.

Pillar’s return would have been marginally better, it’s the Donaldson situation that hurts he most and I would add Estrada, Travis and even Stroman and Sanchez to that list.

Juan De Paula, acquired by the Giants in the Andrew McCutchen trade from the Yankees -- who acquired him from the Mariners for Ben Gamel -- was 91-94 in relief in an A-ball game that day, starting at 91-92 but sitting 94 by the end of his first inning, with a potentially average changeup and below-average curveball. There's some deception in his delivery, both in how he hides the ball and in how far out front he seems to release it.

That catch over the MNP sign should be a plaque at Rogers Centre somewhere.

After trading away fan favourite Kevin Pillar, Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins addresses the trade and why it was another move that needed to be made in order for them to build toward the future success of the organization.

Ross Atkins says: "We're not in a popularity contest, we're in a contest to win championships."

De Paula was the Giants 19th ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline. He’s not in our top 30 after the trade.

Kevin Pillar was a solid guy. He was really choked up over leaving the Jays. First class Blue Jay.

I appreciate how he played hard for the Jays and Canada. Wish him all the best in SF and look forward to seeing him on his return to Toronto.

Damn, sad to see Pillar go. Not really a fan of what Ross Atkins has been doing or getting in return for the guys he's traded. Hope he proves me wrong.

Would be a tad more believable if Donaldson didn’t get traded a year after he should have been.
