The early schedule hasn't made any sense.

Our west coast trip consisted of 3 games against Oakland, only to return home to face San Francisco. Why didn't we just play San Francisco while out west?

Then less than week later Oakland comes all the way up north, and now the Jays are going out west again to face the LAA.

That's some pretty non-sensical schedule making. Brutal. Someone at the league office getting kickbacks on frequent flyer miles?

So the Jays are currently 14-14 and have outscored their opponents by 11 runs this season.

Both of those things are pretty hard to believe.

Vladdy is swingin' like his daddy - at everything.

Two breaking balls outside and a letter high fastball, they're really not giving him anything.

Yeah, not too concerned obviously, but he's seeing a hilariously low in-zone pitch rate at the moment; even with his prodigious patience in the minors, there has to be that desire to hit the ground running. Then you get there, and through 15 plate appearances you're seeing fewer strikes than anyone in the majors.

Just needs to relax a bit, particularly when ahead in the count. He's gearing up to crush everything in those moments, but he isn't exactly getting the "throw a 2-0 fastball down the middle" rookie treatment.

Edit: next at-bat he watches all six pitches. Five of which were balls, the other being an off-speed pitch that he shouldn't be swinging at. Good takes all.

I think Vladdy got his eye in with that AB. IF he comes up again, I bet he gets his first dinger (assuming pitcher throws one in the zone).

Believe it or not, Teoscar’s defense actually grades out very well on fangraphs so far this season. Maybe he really did make improvements?

Good AB by Guerrero.

Let's hope Rowdy does it again!

While defensive stats are pretty volatile in smallish samples, playing him deeper appears to have helped. He has flubbed a few in front of him, as well, but he has had real issues going back on balls since coming to the majors.

If Montoyo’s explanation is true, that the reason they’re pinch running for Guerrero is that the guys on the bench are faster, he really needs to **** off. I understand if they’re shielding him given his value and how he’s just returning from injury. But if it’s just because the guys on the bench are faster, that needs to stop. He’s not even that slow.

And if they are going to pinch run, why not with Brito who’s one of the fastest players in baseball?

Small sample size and the Jays have a bunch of terrible bats but even so, Vlad, despite struggling a bit, is already 3rd in OBP on the team behind Smoak, who's hitting a career high by 30 points and likely won't maintain it for the season, and super-Sogard, no-man all-amazing who has clearly decided enough is enough and he's going to fulfill on his destiny at the age of 33 and his OBP will obviously stay where it currently is or keep going up despite the fact that it's higher than his OPS from last season. As Vlad starts taking a few more pitches and figuring out which ones he can hit, he's going to pull away from the non-Sogards.
