He's not pitching due to elbow issues. That kinda impacts his value. It's not ridiculous.

Good news is Jays can keep him and trade him in the winter, but value will take a hit.

Do you think pitchers have completely healthy elbows every time they pitch or something? They're keeping him out as precaution.

Well, bad news. Although he isn't seriously injured, he isn't going to pitch again before the deadline. There is a minor issue, and this seems to kill his deadline value.

That’s not necessarily bad news. Hell, maybe they’re getting a precautionary MRI to show teams he’s okay? Pitching him right now would be dumb, anyway. People didn’t want Stroman pitching before the deadline in case he got hurt. Why not the same with Giles?

Because Stroman proved he was healthy. Giles needs to pitch to prove he's healthy, evidently he's not.

Are we going to be able to move Giles or are we **** at this point with him?

Are we really going to deal Smoakie and other position players? I thought they might try to bring him back he's been very consistent for us.

Smoak has never really repeated his big season. He's still okay, but decidedly unspectacular, and he'll be 33 next year. Makes sense to trade him.

Blue Jays Notebook: Ken Giles’ status complicates trade talks - Sportsnet.ca

Still, as Wednesday’s deadline nears, the uncertainty over Giles’ status severely complicates trade talks, since the questions about his health must be factored into the acquisition cost.

Now, it’s possible an acquiring club looks at his medicals and decides an extended period of rest is all he needs and bets on him being ready for October. But it’s also possible the Blue Jays look at a creative deal structure with two different groups of players to be named later dependent on how much Giles is able to pitch.

A third possibility is that Giles finishes the season in Toronto and trade talks are revisited in the off-season.

Wow Atlanta gave up their 10th best prospect for a rental reliever. Does that mean we could get something like this for Hudson?

Let’s hope so, that’s a terrible deal by the Braves.

Allard has fallen off big time though.

What in the everloving **** are the Reds doing. They are a bad team set to lose a bunch of people in free agency, and they just traded a very good prospect for one year of Trevor Bauer.

WHAT? wait...whose better, Marcus Stroman or Trevor Bauer? Cincy gave up their #1 prospect and #19 in Top 100 for Bauer? And I dont even want to talk about how good of deal it was for SD too to get him in the 3-way.

Trevor Bauer is better than Marcus but they are also very similar pitchers stat wise i think Marcus has better numbers, besides strikeouts. Also I think alot of front office types don't like Marcus on the field antics

To expound on that: they had traded Trammell (a top 30 prospect), Shed Long (a fringe top 100 per Fangraphs), a Competitive Balance pick, Josiah Gray (also fringe top 100) and Jeter Downs (45+ FV per PG, so one step below fringe top 100) over the past ten months and they're still bad and have little chance of being anything but bad next year.

It's absolute malpractice. They can't trade Votto, so they want to win with Votto. Only, they don't have the resources to win with Votto, so they'll be mediocre with him instead while crippling their future.

Peak Bauer is better. They've been about equal this year. It's also just an extraordinarily bad trade for the Reds.
