Game 1 Fri, May 24 • 7:07 PM EDT
Joey Lucchesi LHP 3-3, 4.28 ERA, 46 SO
Lucchesi experienced some rough batted ball luck early in the season, and he owns a 3.36 FIP that is almost a full run lower than his ERA. Things have begun to turn lately, however, as Lucchesi owns a 2.95 ERA in May.

Trent Thornton RHP 1-4, 4.41 ERA
Thornton will head to the mound to open a three-game Interleague set against the Padres, looking for his second win of the season. The rookie right-hander is coming off one of his best starts of the year, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts over six innings against the White Sox on Sunday.

Game 2 Sat, May 25 • 3:07 PM EDT
Cal Quantrill RHP 0-2, 5.40 ERA, 10 SO
Quantrill's rotation place is tenuous and he'll need a statement game to take control of the No. 5 spot in the Padres' rotation. An Ontario native, Quantrill is set to pitch in Toronto for the first time in his young big league career.

Edwin Jackson RHP 0-1, 6.30 ERA, 6 SO
Jackson will take on the Padres in his third start of the year for the Blue Jays, coming off an outing in which he allowed six runs (five earned) in five innings. In his career against San Diego, the 35-year-old right-hander is 1-6 with a 6.05 ERA in 16 games and 11 starts over 64 innings.

Game 3 Sun, May 26 • 1:07 PM EDT
Chris Paddack RHP 4-2, 1.93 ERA, 56 SO
The hard-throwing right-hander has the lowest ERA (1.93) through his first nine starts of any pitcher in Padres history. On Sunday, Paddack expects a test from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. They're two of the early favorites for Rookies of the Year.

Marcus Stroman RHP 2-6, 2.81 ERA, 55 SO
Stroman heads to the mound to complete the three-game series against San Diego, coming off a start in which he allowed one run on five hits over six innings, lowering his ERA to 2.81. He also received eight runs of support in that outing on Tuesday after getting 10 over his previous 10 starts.

Not only will Biggio be making his debut, the Padres called up Josh Naylor. Naylor's from Mississauga; neat for SD to call him up to make his debut in what's the only series they will play against his hometown team for a few years.

Gurriel's Buffalo line isn't very impressive. I'm surprised he's back so soon.

Looking forward to seeing what Biggio can do. His K rate is down significantly this year, and his overall line is great. Let's hope he transitions well into the bigs.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

High accidental fastballs by Thornton make the low one look like a ball to the hitter.

Probably more to do with the fact that we're wasting ABs on guys like McKinney and Davis. Gurriel showed promise last year. I'm just happy to see an actual prospect getting a chance.

Needs to become more consistent, but there's no question that Thornton has mid-rotation stuff when he has a feel for his breaking pitches.

Lucchesi is one of the guys I kinda dreamed on getting when the Stroman-to-SD rumours were about. Increasingly I don't think he's on the trading block. Another good reminder that velocity doesn't always equal stuff.

Don Lucchesi gets taken out..

It’s just business, not personal.

Poor throw by Hudson but Galvis should have still caught it. He completely whiffed on it.
