Sanchez homered! They just need Hicks, Urshela and Frazier to do it for a full nine now.

Just wait until next week when we have our secret weapon ... crappy lighting. Yankees can’t handle that smoke.

Run differential moves to -24 after tonight. Same as the 18-29 Washington Nationals.

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

At least we made it respectable.

Do you pinch hit for Teoscar coming off the IL there or no?

No. You can't.

But, literally, my 1 question going into the game was why hit him cleanup right off the start, when you could bat him a little later in the order (5th?) behind Vladdy?

It's Charlie, pretty sure we all expect something wrong with the lineup at this point.

Unfortunately, our walmart starting rotation was bound to cost us some game. We've been just been super lucky that we had a bunch of hard throwing guys in the pen who came in and threw up zeroes after the "starters" pitched liked 4-5 innings.

Really need a huge overhaul of the rotation going into next season.

We should have money to do so. We have $54m in non-arb, non-pre-arb salary. We only have three arb players worth keeping, in Stripling, Teoscar and Cole, and they'll get maybe $10m combined. Add in 10x pre-arbs and you have something like $70m to 18 players; if payroll goes up a little that ought to leave enough to make some pretty aggressive plays, either in free agency or taking on pitchers in trade.

Hopefully that's the case. Shapiro needs to convince Rogers to make the payroll close to 2015-16 levels and we should be fine when it comes to picking up quality vets. Team has a solid core and had a decent season, so we could be an attractive destination for free agents if money isn't an issue.

Was really hoping to see more out of Pearson this season too. I know prospects can't really be trusted to make a guaranteed impact regardless of how much hype there is around them in the minors (see Vlad lol), but Pearson was basically as much of a sure thing as it gets. Really thought he'd come and solidify the number 2-3 spot in the rotation while working towards becoming an ace. Hopefully that's something he can work towards next season. Would be a huge boon to have a top starter for peanuts.

Quality vets will want multi-year deals, and we have to leave some flexibility for extensions. The team would likely want to buy out the arb years of a Bichette and Guerrero. Also, if Teoscar in particular is the real deal, his first arb might not be that expensive, but think of Arb2 and Arb3 increases, could be large. So a more prudent sunup in salary seems preferable, adding maybe one quality starter. maybe working on making Merryweather, Hatch and Pearson our 2021 starting pitchers along with Ryu, Stripling, etc.
