If we sign springer to 5 year deal, how many of those years do you think he can be produce like he has done so, similarly on the defensive side.

I guess Randall will be looking for a home? No point having a 4th outfielder making 15 mill.

Hard to say. The final year or two -- where he's probably a middling defensive RF with a non-elite bat -- probably won't be great value. Would like it if we front-loaded it...we're less in need of a bargain in 2021 than we are of a reasonable 2024/2025 salary, really.

Edit: say that we sign him for the projected $125m/5, with it structured as $22m/year with a $15m signing bonus that is paid out over the first two seasons. That'd get you effective figures of $29.5m/$29.5/$22/$22/$22.

If Springer's aging curve by fWAR is something like 5.0/4.3/3.5/3.0/2.2, that would represent $6.94m/fWAR, which would be good value overall, and only the last season would suck a bit. If we end up going higher than that, or Springer's decline sets in a bit earlier (likely because he ages out of CF fairly quickly) then the back end might not be great.

I guess Randall will be looking for a home? No point having a 4th outfielder making 15 mill.

He's only making $10.3m in each of his final three seasons, but yeah. Unless we think that Gurriel can be the primary piece in a trade for a major upgrade in the rotation, it likely makes sense to move Grichuk and then sign someone like Paxton.

Damn I didn't realize Grichuk has 3 more years, if we do sign him, we definitely need to move off him, having as 4th outfielder or rotation outfielder and DH, is not really good value, when you redeploy that money somewhere else, like a pitcher you stated. I wonder if we could get any kind of prospect for him

Trade Grichuk to the Mets. They need a CF.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

If I had to guess, I'd say that Springer has communicated that he'll "sleep on it", which in practical terms means that the Jays/Springer have a provisional agreement, and Springer's agent is contacting every other team to see whether they're willing to beat the offer.

Edit: apparently the answer that his agent got from those teams was "nope".
