This can't be the game he wanted to pitch. Ouch.

C'mon Pearson, you got this.

Pearson really struggling here. Let's hope it's nerves and adrenaline then anything else.

Pearson looks like somebody who should be working on his mechanics in single A more than a guy who should be in the majors. He can't command a single pitch he has and it's not like this is a new problem for him.

I was assured that he was ready and we were wasting wins by having him in the minors.

I still expect Pearson to be a good pitcher, but owing to his injuries he just doesn't have much experience...he still has less than 150 professional innings under his belt.

That's what he's looked like today, but that's not a fair assessment of him. Walks have never been a serious problem for him.

He's probably just a bit amped up. This is just his 6th ever regular season MLB appearance, and obviously the first this season.

Vladdy would have made that play.

Poor defense bites them again. Tellez should have at least knocked that down.

Can't really fault Montoyo for the late hook there - the team desperately needs innings right now.

Pearson not finding the strike zone is the issue. He’s been living on the edge thus far today.

That’s an early hook.

Normally I'd probably agree. However, Nat's obviously not right and just back from injury. He's a huge asset, and with where we are in this game, you just get him out of there. Building him back up to MLB regular starter will require a bit more planning and patience than hoped for.

If they’re playing it this cautious lol he may as well be in the minors working on his mechanics.

There's a story from Sportsnet 5 days ago indicating he was tinkering with his mechanics. He very much looked like a guy who had not adjusted to those changes.

Not unreasonable. But he's here now, having thrown 68 pitches and only 28 for strikes.

He'll be going back to the minors tomorrow. Jays tried to get a W helicoptered in from Trenton. It didn't work. Charlie righty cut the cord.

Walks have been a terrible problem for him in his short MLB career to this point (walking nearly a batter an inning). He also has been tinkering with his mechanics over the past few weeks.

There may very well be serious issues here that need to be rectified.

All of this could have been avoided if he just pitched Thornton for three innings.

You don’t think the front office had anything to do with who started today’s game?

Even Pearson's velo was down today. People keep saying he should just keep throwing fastballs in the zone instead of messing with off-speed stuff. But you can't start against a good hitting team like the Astros throwing only 94-95mph fastballs like the ones he had today (even if he could get it over for strikes consistently, which he couldn't).
