Salary dump, getting a decent reliever for Panik + prospect?

Is it as straightforward as it seems?

Dickerson is injured. May be out a while so the Jays may have a month or so to figure out what to do with him. I'd imagine he'll slot into a bench bat role when he returns. He's hit RHP well in his career.

The rest is as it seems (Cimber is a decent submariner who is difficult to square up-96th percentile in terms of being barreled, Panik was likely getting DFA'd within the week anyway). Now we'll see who the prospect is.

I think the money the Jays take on here was a bigger deal than is being let on. Dickerson is a $9m player, injured, and the Marlins have a LF alternative. Miami may be sending some cash, but I would bet it isn't equivalent to the remaining pro-rate on Dickerson. Cimber is ARB-1, so he comes with a bit of potential control.

We're a better team playing Espinal over Panik and we're getting a quality RP with team control until 2025. Looks like a win to me for eating half a season of Dickerson's contract. Great trade.

Yeah, I'm curious to see who the prospect is though. I'm guessing something in the 25 to 35 range?

Who the prospect is will be really important in evaluating this trade.

I have to asssume (I hope) that it's not somebody high up on the charts.

Jays didn't trade a top 5 prospect? Cimber and Dickerson must suck then.

Well, I'd say that's positive news then.

I think this means Gurriel is traded for pitching eventually if Dickerson shows anything when healthy Charlie loves Dickerson as he coached him in TB.

Dickerson is a former all-star plus has won gold glove before in the outfield on top of obviously bringing in some much needed left handed pop.

Anything that gets Joe Panik off the team is a victory in my book.

This opens up playing time for Espinal as the primary utility infielder (a not-insignificant upgrade over Panik) and adds an arm to the pen that should be better than half the arms currently in there. Overall a small move but an upgrade.

thats probably the best case scenario although it could be Grichuk that brings out more value maybe? its either one or the other that is probably going to get traded.
