If this madness continues, I might have to tune out.

Let's not forget that Montoyo was ejected from the April 30 game against the Astros... and we won. Fun to imagine all the ways he might've blown that 2-1 lead.

Putting our worst hitter (and possibly the worst hitter in baseball) at leadoff is a fireable offense. In the 9th inning we had this shmuck up at the plate for the 5th time, while Vladdy was left standing in the on-deck circle at the end of the game.

I still don’t get why he’s the manager, Shatkins must not be watching the games or something.

What about this team is actually "loaded" right now? The hitters are absolutely awful. Katoh is 5th(!!!) on the team in OPS and he's only at .686 so it's not like he's overachiever or anything. Of the guys in front of him, Springer and Vlad are awesome but Vlad is well behind last season right now and Jansen has been hurt most of the time. And they're still significantly ahead of their pyth.

Unless/until the bats actually get going, this team isn't all that amazing. Bo, Teoscar, Gurriel, Chapman and Kirk are all hitting like AAAA guys so far. Honestly, it feels kinda like last season where the bats piled up runs whenever they were loose and swinging more freely without the game on the line so much but absolutely struggled whenever there was a bit of pressure on them (Springer is the exception here). That part might actually be a bit on Montoyo but I don't see anyone mentioning that side of things.

Andrew Stoeten compiled a chart which shows the Jays offence, by ANY metric, has been getting worse, week by week, for the past six weeks. If the ball has changed, if the game has changed, if the team is being pitched differently, it's on everyone to adjust, not just wait things out. This is a free swinging offence, and the question is whether what they have been practising the past couple of seasons ought to be adjusted... Also, the Royals fired their hitting coach yesterday.

Oh, definitely. There's a lot at play here. I think this goes well beyond Montoyo. The real question is if the team needs to change so quickly. All it takes is for the balls/dehumidifiers to be adjusted next season and then you've made a foolish mistake with a rush decision.

I'm a little curious at how the Jays haven't seem to have caught on and what the plans are. The Jays are poor hitters by basically every metric right now. They rank highly in HRs but still have a rather pedestrian slg%. They don't get on base and they don't score. Their pitching has been close to league average. Their hitting has been awful. How much can they pad those stats once they start playing the Orioles?

IMHO Montoyo has been ok this year. That's not good, but it is better than last year for sure (so far). Management of pitching staff and bullpen is really the main job of a manager and it has been ok. I'm just hoping that Shatkins takes Tapia away from him.

Setting a reminder to update this list with the May 23, 2022 game after pulling Phelps for Borucki with the game on the line. Easily the worst of anything from him since last fall.

Time to close the book on this thread. Montoyo actually did make considerable improvement in 2022 from his disastrous 2021 decision making that cost us the playoffs (and maybe more), but the damage was done.
