Leverage Vladdy & Bo. They make hitters around them better. Semien is not a huge loss for us. We need that 4th starter more.

I'd disagree and say it's a pretty massive loss (Semien was one of the top 5 players in baseball last year). Not much they can do about a guy taking a 7/175M contract, though.

Loved Marcus Semien, but no way it made sense to give him a 7 year deal up to the age of 38, at 25 m a year. Wish him well in Texas.

That's a lot of money for a 31 year old.

good for marcus. he got paid. we'll be fine there. whether that's by promoting from within or FA. adding starting pitching still should be the focus.

For billionaires? This is a huge loss I hope we don’t have to see biggio as a full time player again.

Happy for Semien. Dude is awesome and had an amazing season with the Jays. Glad the Rangers volunteered to be his retirement home. Sounded like he wanted to be closer to California if possible so this may help his family situation too.

Billionaires are not in the business of losing money if they can avoid it. It's what makes them billionaires. Zero dollars for Semien's contract will come out of the pockets of ownership; they woll come from the team's accounts, just as they do for every single team in baseball. And money from the team's accounts spent on a 37 year old Semien is money not spent on someone who will be better at baseball.

175M over 7 years seems like a pretty good reason to pick the Rangers to me.

Great guy and player. Can't blame him for taking that contract. Can't blame the Jays for not matching.

Especially when the "billionaires" are essentially a publicly traded entity.
