It's April, after an abbreviated spring. There are a bunch of good hitters mired in really deep slumps to start the year: Trevor Story has a sub .600 OPS, Joey Gallo was hitting .146/.255/.167 entering the day, Altuve (pre-DL) and Kyle Tucker were both hitting like pitchers, the whole White Sox lineup has turned into a bunch of rutabagas, etc.

Yeah, and people need to remember with baseball, that it’s a long season with a lot of ups and downs. Virtually every hitter goes through good stretches and poor stretches.

Raimel Tapia's exit velocity is nearing league-average, and his average launch angle is back above 0. He still isn't and likely will never be a good hitter, especially if he maintains a 0.0% walk rate, but it's fun that he has decided to be an entirely different type of bad hitter than he was last year.

Also, beyond the bit where we're trying to win a title, this is Bichette's arb floor year, which means that it'll have a profound effect on his earning power through the remainder of his team control, and also his bargaining power in extension talks. So the one thing that we can eliminate as a possibility is that Bichette isn't trying...as is typical with struggling players, it's far more likely that he's trying too hard, which often manifests as attempts to bludgeon every pitch within 10 feet of the plate.

Apparently that Matt Chapman guy is good at baseball. Seriously The A's are foolish for giving him away for what they did

Left Berrios in too long there. He'd been getting hit pretty hard all game and should have been out of there after the first liner this inning.

Elite contact hitters are labeled bad hitters cause the outdated stats suggest he needs to get the ball in the air. The nerds want everyone with the same approach.
