We will see Tapia pinch hitting later in the game (lol). However, like you I am surprised to see no Tapia in the lineup, and Montoyo doing the right thing for once and having both Kirk and Janssen in the lineup.

Why did we DFA Borucki just to call up an equally bad reliever? Why not give Adrian Hernandez a chance, who is dominating in AAA.

I do think Thorton is better than Borucki. But he isn't good overall.
Just like Collins for Merryweather. Trading a scrub for a scrub although Merryweather does supposedly have good stuff. Other than Capra, they haven't tried anyone else.
Happy to see the two catchers in the lineup today. At least they got that right.

Best guess is that we wanted someone who we can throw out there as a sacrificial lamb for a few IP. Even with the off-day yesterday, the Angels series put a real strain on the bullpen, and Hernandez is being used almost exclusively as a SIRP. Thornton can be deployed in long relief, assuming we want Stripling to pitch more important innings.
We'll likely see Hernandez soon, though. His changeup is a silly pitch, and he has been able to throw it for a strike, which is important when you throw it as often as he does.

This is definitely the worst Gausman has looked all year. Splitter isn’t drawing any whiffs at all today.

Borucki is out of options and has no business being on a MLB roster (especially with the idiotic way Montoyo was using him). Had to be done.

Not having Kirk in the lineup regularly is absurd

This is the team that many of us envisioned. My Sportsnet feed is messed up but the Chicago feed has been very good so far. Guys calling the game haven't been homers at all quite the opposite they said they love the city called it one of the great cities, a beautiful walking city and clean. Made jokes about the $1 hotgogs saying they would eat 1 per inning

This performance by Kirk shows why it was idiotic to have guys like Tapia and Zimmer in the lineup over him. The days he is not catching, Kirk should be the DH and get regular at bats over scrubs like Zimmer and Tapia.

Hopefully by July we look back at that cold streak with the bats in May and laugh. This is the team I thought I'd see opening day.
