Great acquisition for the front end, at his age, keep our fingers crossed about the rest.

He'll probably slot in as a strong #3 after Manoah and Gausman, yeah? I like it. Now if Berrios can get his stuff together, we'll have an above average top 4. If we bring back Strip, we're laughing.

On paper we have nice SP and RP depth.
Based on play, I only trust Manoah, Gausman, Stripling (please come back), and a healthy Ryu for 5 innings + Romano, possibly Mayza
Hoping to not get RA Dickey'd by Bassitt and get earn your **** keep bounce backs from Berrios, Bass, Kikuchi, Pearson, Richards.

Ryu 20 million out of the pen and spot start?

Age is obviously a risk, but 3 years mitigates that. Bassitt is a very good mid-rotation pitcher, who consistently suppresses hard contact and puts few guys on. Very reasonable deal in a winter where reasonable deals are few and far between.

Good chance Ryu has thrown his last pitch for us. At best, he'll be back from TJ late in the year.

Right completely forgot about the TJ.

If Stripling comes back and we have the depth I'd like us to do some kind of TB bullpen game hybrid. Instead of using 5-7 guys 1-2 innings each we go Manoah, Gausman, Bassitt, Stripling as the work horses.
Berrios/Ryu/Kikuchi get the 5th rotating spot starts depending on match up and limited to 2-3 innings each allowing them to go full throttle and limit their implosions. If somehow all 3 implode in the same game so be it. Better to have one bad combined loss than getting 3 separate bad losses as we have seen numerous times when these guys were dedicated starters (not so much Ryu).

Shame we lost the 2nd rounder and 500K international. His biggest trait is he's a ground ball pitcher, which I'm not sure how we rank in groundball defence, with Bo as SS.

Is he going to be ready to pitch this season? I thought his injury was expected to take him to at least late-August?

Well look at that.. we missed on Gibson and Heaney who were both cheaper. Maybe missing on them while being judicious with the Kiermaier signing saved us the extra dollars necessary to suddenly be in position to compete in the Bassitt range. The cookie might have crumbled very nicely this time...

Offseason shaping up now. I think that we turn our catcher surplus into another OF and we may be done here. Not sure I love the chances of Stripling returning despite wanting that pretty badly.

I wonder if this is reaction to losing on Senga, 5 year and 75, no loss picks/cash.... i'm sure we were in on him.

I still think Berrios will come back into form, he’s been too consistent year over year previously to suck as bad as last year.
Manoah/Gausman/Bassitt/Berrios and Stripling if we get him back is an elite lineup IMO

Bassitt is about as good as they could have done for a FA SP outside of the truly elite ones (Verlander, DeGrom, Rodon) who were all costing a ridiculous amount in this market. They got a reasonable deal on him as well, likely because Bassitt turned down the QO which will cost the Jays a draft pick.
I wasn't sure they even had this kind of money to spend after the Teoscar trade so this is a good sign.
