Varsho's baserunning and defense saving the Jays today.

Not to make excuses for the guy, but Guerrero has not been the same ever since he missed a few games with his right knee discomfort. Maybe he is not still completely healthy right now? I am sure he will turn it around in due time.

Yeah the injury tracks with his struggles if he's not 100% we should give him a week or 2 off to get right.

tough scene for the league when a team the calibre of the twins are first in the AL central

nice series W, though it would be nice to one day get through a game without an egregious tootblan

Nice to win a game when 5 players in your lineup went for a combined 1 for 19. Not a surprise to see Cavan Biggio being one of the players that was hitless.

I didn't like the high BB for Berrios today, but he ended up giving us 5.2 solid innings. Bullpen was very good as well. Much needed win as all of NY, BAL and TB won their games today.

Very lucky to win this game with the amount of mess ups the Jays had. Twins just had more

I would not say a guy hitting .211 right now is tremendous. He has hovered around the Mendoza line (.200) for a large portion of May while striking out a ton. Also, his OBP, OPS, and SLG are below average and not tremendous. Further regressed from 2022 and frankly terrible. I guess he was not tremendous yesterday when he could not snare those two Fly Balls, and they became homers instead.

I hope he does turn it around, and want him to succeed though. It is his 4th MLB season, and not his rookie year like Moreno, and I am hoping I can be wrong about him in the end. I had no problem trading both Moreno and Gurriel, but Varsho alone did not cut the mustard. It did for you, since you loved the trade. However, I want him to succeed, since this team needs him to if it wants to reverse the funk they have been for two weeks.

He looked so locked in the first 10 or so games and hasn't had it since. Not sure what's up with him (can be said about half the roster right now).

149 wRC+ in April, 111 wRC+ in May (although worse after today's game). It's just a pretty bad slump, he had similar ones last year too in May and September so I'm sure he'll turn it around eventually.

It does not look like he's going to get back to what he was in 2021 though.

This is Moreno's first year as a Starting Catcher. Not even two months as a Starter, and he has had a better year up to date than Varsho, Kirk and Jansen. Posters who loved that trade like you hope Moreno regresses. I think he will only get better in time, and much better defensively and offensively in 3 years time, since this is Varsho's 4th season in MLB. We had 3 years of hitting data on Varsho, and I got more major questions about him than Moreno. He had a batting average of .235 last year. So, you hope he can get to that level. I agree with you that at least he is an excellent defender.

However, I smirk when everyone who supported that trade think Gurriel and Moreno will only regress from here on out, while Varsho will only get better and not regress. Varsho's Batting Average, OPS, and OBP last year all regressed from 2021. It has further regressed this year. However, there is no way Gurriel keeps up his insane hitting stats the past month. He will regress, but not sure by how much. Even if you want to leave Gurriel out of the equation, and focus on strictly Moreno, Arizona got 6 years of control left on a potential all-star Catcher for an outfield version of Ryan Goins with a bit more pop. Their fans and broadcasters are thanking Toronto for the deal, for good reason.

so... your point is?
