Clutchest player we've had since Bautista.

Five hits in 9+ innings.

Can this offense figure things out in the second half? I'm not optimistic.

Let's just be thankful we haven't given crazy money and term to Vlad yet.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Not optimistic, however it does not hurt to sign a vet like Nelson Cruz right now to provide another bat off the bench and in RF/DH, instead of relying on Biggio to play RF from time to time with Springer out. Maybe being back in the AL will help Cruz, who has been a very good 7 time all-star hitter for many years, but is having a down year this year, hitting only .245 before being DFA.
If not Cruz, give guys like Lukes more of an opportunity over a guy like Biggio. Have Merrifield more in LF instead of Varsho (except for late inning defense and pinch running which Varsho provides).

Give more of an opportunity to Santiago Espinal at Second Base, with Merrifield in LF, and Varsho parked on the bench more. Espinal hit much better in June, even though his numbers for the year have been disappointing. So, seeing less of Varsho and Biggio in the lineup everyday might be something to try. Both have been horrific at the plate this year. Biggio has options I believe, so he can be sent down to Buffalo to make room for a guy like Cruz. Also, give Jansen more DH opportunities the days he is not catching over Belt. Belt has cooled down the last couple of weeks, as opposed to Jansen who has swung the bat well.

Don’t know if this was in another thread but Ryu pitched four scoreless innings for Dunedin. 3 hits, no walks, 1K

Ryu will be good insurance down the stretch in case Manoah implodes again, or if the team makes the wise move of temporarily using a 6 Man Rotation with the limited off days; and to alleviate the pressure off the starting pitchers who have amassed a lot of innings up to date like Gausman.

It feels like half of his HRs are in the 9th inning of close games. Just unreal.

He is/has always been a good player, and teammate, with a great positive attitude. He has improved his numbers a lot.
I wish they would DH him more, and Kirk would go on a diet.

If we do bring Kirk back, there needs to be a weight clause in his contract. His slow speed have costed us tons of runs this year

If?

There is approximately a 0.00000083% chance that we DFA Kirk. That's about the chances that he gets hit by lightning, and can't ever play again. And even then, I think that's probably high - at his price, we'd sign him for the next year in the hopes that he recovers.

I wanted to trade Kirk last year (when his value would never been higher coming off his all-star appearance). I thought in 2-3 years, he would be more of a DH anyways given his frame. It is not fat shaming, but this organization needs to make it clear to him that he cannot enjoy all the buffets he does in the off-season, and to lose 20-25 pounds. He needs to slim down like Ryu did, who said last month he focused on eating very healthy, and cut out a lot of junk and sugar from his diet to drop excess weight. Kirk needs to do the same.
