Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

I like Hicks, but the walks are concerning... He needs to improve his control if he's going to be a reliable high leverage reliever.

Jays need the strikeouts at the back end of the pen. They’ve been lacking this for a few years now.

Kloff doesnt seem like much of anyhing. I guess Robberse is the real get for the Cards.
Nice to have another good reliever.

I’m not really big on either Kloffenstein or Robberse for upside, but this is a lot to pay for a rental with control issues. If they can extend him, it’s fine I guess.

Mitch White DFA’d, another huge win as part of this trade.

Agreed and he doesn't give up many homeruns which is another benefit.

I guess our pitching "adds" will be Hicks, Green, Ryu, and *Romano. Enough?
Is anybody here a marine biologist?

Jordan Hicks
STL • RP • #12
ERA
3.67
WHIP
1.51
IP
41.2
BB

K

The Blue Jays are adding Hicks one day after placing closer Jordan Romano on the injured list with a back issue. Hicks is the second Cardinals reliever the Blue Jays have acquired this month -- they picked up lefty Génesis Cabrera last week. Once Romano returns, Toronto's bullpen could shake out like this:
Closer: RHP Jordan Romano
Setup: RHP Jordan Hicks, LHP Tim Mayza
Middle: LHP Génesis Cabrera, RHP Yimi García, RHP Nate Pearson, RHP Trevor Richards, RHP Erik Swanson
Long: RHP Mitch White (Kikuchi?)
Hicks, 27 in September, has a 3.68 ERA in 41 2/3 innings this season, though he's been lights out since shifting to the first base side of the rubber a few weeks ago. He's held opposing hitters to a .210/.288/.238 batting line and zero home runs in 28 2/3 innings since May 1. A 100 mph sinker and the ability to limit homers never go out of style, especially come postseason time.

Re: Jays acquire Jordan Hicks
the casuals will love it because he throws hard until the control issues inevitably show up. but the velocity will always draw eyes and attention. now we have another pearson on board, at least as a rental for now.
kloff and robberse are depth guys that could always pan out in STL. don't think it's a bad trade for either side.
all-in on the rick vaughn experience, I guess.

Great news. I know it must have been embarrassing for Atkins to DFA Mitch White, after trading a good prospect like Nick Frasso for him, but there is a thing called Sunk Cost. When you could not trust Mitch White in a 5 run lead, there is no point on having him on the roster. Wish him the best elsewhere. Glad he is no longer a Blue Jay. Mitch White was Brad Hand 2.0

Not being able to use White with a 5 run lead led to Garcia pitching 3 days in a row this weekend. Probably hurt them today and almost certainly will hurt them against the Orioles. This definitely had to be done.

So if Hicks takes the place of White, does that mean that Pearson goes back down in order to fit Ryu on the active roster?

Jay Jackson probably
Do you (or anybody else) know if Jay Jackson would have to clear waivers again though?
I know he cleared waivers earlier in the year, but if he needs to be passed through waivers again this time there is no way he does not get claimed.
