Jays vs Orioles (June 3-6) Birdbath... or bloodbath?

Post#1 » by Parataxis » Mon Jun 3, 2024 3:42 am

After a few series against the MLB cellar dwellers, the Jays are going to spend the rest of the week against real competition. Will they hold their own? Will the get beaten and battered? Will this thread have fewer pages than games? How will the City Connect Backpacks look in person? And who is starting Tuesday?

EE's homerun was obviously great, but this history is still my fav against the trash birds.

I almost expect a split because the series in Baltimore was close, the Orioles pitching has injury issues, so much so that the team hasnt even announced starters for Wednesday and Thursday, and the Jays will stretch out this season's agony just long enough to make us worry that Ross will try a Hail Mary trade acquisition that will ultimately still leave the Jays out of the playoffs.

I just don't understand the Votto signing. Why has it taken this long to get him back? Was the injury he suffered in his first spring training game that bad??

Safe to say Bichette is washed this season. Not sure what happened to him in the offseason but ive never seen someone decline this badly in the course of a few months save Alex Manoah. Literal hero to zero decline. Just unreal.

Trivia Time (research not permitted)
Between 2019-2023, only 2 players have finished top 3 in MVP voting, a total of 3 separate times. Who are they?

A recent shortstop comparable could be Javier Baez.
Javier Baez has had a quick decline (A few times)

2018 - 129 OPS+ (2nd in MVP voting)
2019- 115 OPS+
2020 -59 OPS+
Although that was the Covid Year and he did bounce back in 2021 to 115 OPS+.

Detroit signed him in 2022 and he has been terrible since (OPS+ of 91, 62 and now down to 36 in 2024)

Somebody in another thread said there is no worse contract in baseball than George Springer. And while the Springer one is bad, the Baez one is certainly worse.

How would you like to be on the hook for 3 more years (3/73) for a guy who had a .593 OPS last year, followed by .479 OPS this year. And who has a so-so attitude.

Hoping for a sweep so we can start selling off some of our players. It's only a matter of time.

This Os team is miles better than our disgraceful operation.

Shohei and someone else, maybe Betts

Shohei is correct. Betts is a good guess.. he has did #2, #2, #5.
Regarding the second player ... its not an obvious player (its the surprising part of the question). The player does have some ties to the Blue Jays.

KK hitting in that spot in a 4 run deficit is hilarious.

This team is so unserious.
