I predict pain and disgust from both sides.

Harold Ramirez got DFA'd he's been horrible this year but I'd take a flyer on him. He's only been slightly worse than Vogelbach tbh lol

How does that work for salary? Does the team that picks him up just take on the rest of his ~4m guarantee?

God, the last thing we need is another mediocre guy on this team.
We have just so many of these fringe guys. Makes you wonder why our offence is such crap.

Should trade that scrub Biggio for him, we just DFA'd him.

Yes. 119 wRC+ and 128 wRC+ the last two seasons for Ramirez would suggest he'll be traded somewhere too.

I feel sorry for Cavan...but this is a business. He is not performing to the level needed to keep a roster spot.

This was year Number 6 for this scrub. This organization finally came to its senses, and let this guy go. They finally made the right move for a change, instead of focusing on friendships. If his name was Cavan Smith, he would have been DFA in the first couple of months of the 2022 season, when he was one of the worst players in MLB. This move was two years later than I actually wanted.

Thanks to his last name being "Biggio" this guy is collecting 4.21 million this year, and has made slightly over 10 million for his underwhelming career. Not sure why you feel sorry for him. He was not worthy of a MLB roster spot for the past three years. He will be out of MLB in a year or two, just like how I predicted of Raimel Tapia; who this organization somehow gave 411 AT Bats to for the the 2022 Season, including his comical defensive play in the Seattle Choke Job Wild Card Gane that ended the 2022 season with Gurriel injured in Left Field.

Biggio was playing at about this same horrible useless level at this point last year and the fair assumption by all was there was no chance he would get tendered,,,, and then had a very good second half with an OBP of .404 and an OPS of .765 (OPS+ of 116) with solid defence. He was actually a valuable utility guy in August and September. He sort of "earned" being tendered an arbitration year contract.

But he was back to being useless again. And he is an easy DFA... he likely easily clears because of his contract, and if he gets claimed its not a bad thing either. Perhaps he figures it out in AAA, and then comes back later in the season to help... or be a body after we make some trades at the deadline if we stink.

I just don't see a scenario now where he earns another arb year contract though.

He was a valuable member of our team in the second half last year (404 OBP and solid defence). Without that level of play we may not get in the playoffs. (Of course one can argue his first half play may have cost us a game or two as well)

But that was peak Cavan the last few years -- lots of bad play outside of that. His walk rate has declined a fair amount in 24 vs 23, and he seems to be fishing for walks quite unsuccessfully watching an absurd amount of 3rd strikes... scouting teams probably made an adjustment.

I relate to Montgomery Burns a bit with regards to this team. Quite a few of our guys could be cut.

Vogelbach, Clement, Turner, KK are all guys we could let go tomorrow and be just fine with replacement players. Some of our full-timers could also be mentioned but we do need to staff a full team. I do think Biggio has a bit more game than some of the remaining players, but a fresh start should do him good anyway so hopefully he gets a real opportunity elsewhere. We're at a point where the team is on the cusp of rebuild status and a FO that's teetering on the abyss. No point in getting up in arms over replacement player shuffling.

If he is claimed on waivers after being DFA'd, the new team is on the hook for his contract.

If he doesn't get claimed after being DFA'd, its up to Tampa whether they want to release him or send him to AAA (I don't think Ramirez has enough experience to refuse a AAA assignment at this point, but I stand to be corrected).

If they do release him, or Ramirez has the ability to refuse the AAA assignment, then he becomes a FA and can be signed for the minimum or whatever he can get. Tampa is responsible for his contract (perhaps they get off the hook for the portion he signs for).

So I guess I answered part of your question, but I have some questions myself on the process.
