Unless you're gonna extend Vlad (and the Jays very clearly are not), trading him is the only tenable option for this franchise long-term. And you might as well do it while he looks like the 2021 version of himself for the first time in 3 years. They could actually set themselves up for a real rebuild with such a trade instead of running it back with this garbage roster for another year.

Wish we got this version of Vlad early on in the season when we kept losing those close games because the offense couldnt score. At this point now he's just setting himself for a payday.

Wouldn't have made a big enough difference with this bullpen anyway.

Maybe it was intentional. After they lowballed him in the arbitration process, he wanted the front office to look bad. Now that it's all over, why not perform exceptionally well and get paid handsomely!

our bullpen was fine earlier in the season. once the injuries started happening it went all downhill from there. that's why it's so important to have depth in pitching in your organization.

It was pretty much a disaster from the beginning. Romano, Mayza and Swanson were hurt and/or sucked from day 1.

They gotta pay Vladdy. The sooner, the better.

I agree. Pay him. Keep him around. God knows the rest of the roster is God awful with nothing exciting in the farm system either.

This team right now has the feel of the Expos from 1998-2001. A team that stank, had a few players that were interesting to follow, but really there was only one player you wanted to watch -- in that case it was Vladimir Guerrero Sr. Of course Sr, was more entertaining when he was younger because of the arm, speed, and ability to hit any pitch, but still its fun to watch Vlad Jr right now.

Randles outlook on vladdy has been consistent this year. The rest of you went from saying he needs to be dealt, hes going to finish the year with 12 homers to demanding an extension lol

Even over re-signing him if he wants to stay and get a deal done? He's still 25 and would fit into the rebuild timeline no?

I do get that he's overrated and isn't a true franchise cornerstone like those other guys consistently putting up 5 plus WAR every season. But the upside is there still for him to reach that plateau.

I think if he's willing to get something done, you try for it. If he's being really unreasonable or determined to reach FA, then you explore trades.

I’d consider re-signing him if he keeps this run up for the rest of the season, sure. He’d be a top 5 hitter in baseball like in 2021 if he did that.

But do I expect the Jays to do so? Absolutely not and that’s why taking offers on him is the best option (particularly given how bad this roster projects to be in 2025). You’re just gonna waste the trade value of a really good hitter in what is incredibly likely to be a lost year otherwise.

Yea I think I'd try my hardest to extend him this offseason, if he says no or plays hardball, you move him. A team looking for a big offseason get might be willing to overpay.
