Toronto Blue Jays @ New York Yankees, July 21-23

Post#1 » by JaysRule15 » Sun Jul 20, 2025 10:29 pm

One of the biggest series of the season. Yankees are throwing both Rodon and Fried at us this series. Winning two outta three will be huge. Another tough series coming up against the Tigers after this too.

Is this confirmed? I heard Rodon has injury issues same with Schlittler.

This series is where our bullpen will be really tested, and not having a healthy Yimi Garcia and Sandlin, and even to a lesser extent Ryan Burr hurts. Yankees offense is still very good up and down the lineup, and their offense is looking much better after they were swept by the Jays a couple of weeks ago.

You are going to be counting on guys like Chad Green, Justin Bruihl, Tommy Nance, and Fisher to get critical outs in this series before turning things over to Yariel/Hoffman. Hopefully the Starters can do their part to give quality outings, reducing the pressure on the bullpen.

It feels good knowing, going into this series, that no matter what happens, we're walking out of it at the top (or tied) for the AL East lead.

I want to crush the Yanks, but it's nice knowing we've built ourselves a cushion.

4-3 over this next week against the Tiger and Yanks would be great.
I would probably be content with even 3-4 (assuming there wasn't some clearly blown games there)

Just can't have a terrible weak.

AFAIK, both Fried and Schlittler are currently day-to-day, although expected to return for this series (but it'll depend on how Fried's side session went yesterday and how Schlittler's leg is feeling) https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/yankees-injuries-and-roster-moves

How much would Zac Gallen cost at this point? He isn’t having a good year at all this year.

Time for Guerrero to hit 3 home runs this series

Sucks to see no Barger but he's been awful against lefties, so makes sense to keep him on the bench and bring him in at the right time for a pinch hit at-bat once we get to the pen. Yankees don't have many lefty relievers either.

I would have still gone with Barger over a scrub like Leo Jimenez, hitting an awful .095 (2 for 21) since being called up.

While I get that reasoning, a big part of this lineup's succes this season has come from putting players in the right situations to succeed and leaning heavily into platoon splits. Also, by not starting Barger, you can choose to bring him in high leverage situations as they come once a righty reliever is in the game.

But long term I do think Barger could be an everyday player.
