Will Towers stay in the rotation this year?

Post#1 » by evilRyu » Mon Apr 2, 2007 1:41 am

Cool! Blue Jays forum!!

Anyways, with the struggles that Mr. Towers had last year, do you think he'll be able to bounce back, and stay in the rotation?

I think he'll bounce back but Chacin will lose his spot to Zambrano by July.

I doubt it. He might be better than last year - actually I guess that's not very difficult - but there are so many other guys that are at his level in the organization, the odds are one or two of them will outshine him IMO. One factor in his favour is his contract - they kept him in the majors longer than they should have last year mainly because of the contract, and the same thing could happen this year.

One thing I'll add though - if I'm wrong, it's not like I'm going to be upset!

IMO I think he will stick, but as 5th starter, no higher. He changed a lot of things in his game and hopefully he rebounds, we're going to need it. So yeah, I think he's going to make the rotation but have a record very close to .500 give or take.

I would like to think that the law of averages works out in his favor, and he does a serviceable job as the #4 man (hoping he moves up, as Chacin moves down)... but then again, this could clearly be more of a trend than an anomaly...

His biggest weakness last year was location. He was getting abused because he was throwing 85 mph 'fastballs' (a la Jamie Moyer) right over the plate. From what I've heard (I havent seen a game yet) his control is much better. As a junkball pitcher, he pretty much depends on this ablilty.

I predict a 10-10 or so season from him, with a 4.5 ish ERA. He'll stick in the rotation Gus, OTOH, I do see losing his spot if he doesn't shape up.

Well that's rude...

But I'm hoping to hell that he regains his old self. If he does this rotation becomes soooo much better.

He doesn't really want him dead.

I believe in him...I mean...I don't expect him to win 20...but I think he's plenty capable of being an end of rotation kind of guy.
Just draft a bloody C.

I really hope so because Towers can be something when hes on. Hes got alot of pitches to work with but when his location sucks hes hit and hit hard since hes a finesse pitcher. I say yes but only if he gets his control under his control.

I think he will start off in the rotation but will move down to AAA ball after his 3 or 4 start if he gives up too many runs. If he can be solid in the rotation his first couple of starts(if he gets the chance)then there is a chance he might be there for a while. I actually met him on a plane and didnt even know who he was until i asked him something about baseball during the all-star break in houston. Good Guy!

I said no. He has to have pinpoint control just to be an average MLB pitcher but it comes and goes with him. And there are a pitchers with better arms (Marcum, Zamb, Janssen, Thomson) ready to start when he falters this time.

Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

I'm pulling for him to stay out there, but if he does poorly he'll get quickly pulled.

IMO one of either Towers, Chacin, or Ohka gets pulled by May. My guess would be Chacin would be the first to go. He doesn't throw hard and his control is iffy. His first season was solid b/c of his deceptiveness, but I think the AL has quickly caught onto him.

Realistically I expect only one of the three to stick. Zambrano will move into the rotation, followed by Janssen (although I think he'll be valuable in the pen). Also, if its true that McGowan has discovered a hitch in his delivery, here's hoping he fills all that potential everyone's been talking about for years.

I think Towers will be replaced by Zambrano in a while.
