Our best baseball play-by-play guy ever PERIOD. Damn ESPN for stealing our local talent.

He was probably my favorite TV broadcaster for the Jays....too bad he left for ESPN.....I had always wanted the Jays to simulcast Tom Cheek and Jerry Howarth though for the games on TV.....but oh well. (RIP Tom)

We were definitely spoiled with the Shulman era. Unfortunately, it was a period that I didn't watch a lot of baseball.

We were really spoiled across the board back then. Dan Sulman was among the best in baseball and John Saunders was one of the best basketball announcers. It was a great time to be a sports fan in T.O..

I really used to enjoy Brian Williams when he used to do games for the CBC on Friday nights. TSN has him on some type of contract. I wonder if they could coax him to do it.

CBC was good and of Dan Shulman and Buck Martinez were great. Of course I miss them especially since I get so turned off listening to the current broadcasters (Jamie Campbell and Pat Tabler)
Tabler's been at it awhile but he still hasn't improved. In fact over the years I think he's gotten worse.
Campbell might be an upgrade from that guy they had before on sportsnet (was it Rob Faulds?) But he's just so bad at calling a game. I mean he's somewhat improved since starting, when he couldn't tell a pop fly from a home run but he doesn't make the game any more entertaining for the people watching.
SOMETHING must be done! JMO of course...

Here's a funny page dedicated to Brian Williams that I bookmarked way back in the day that I still have:

Dan Shulman and Buck Martinez were the best.
I can stand Tabler more than Candiotti and Rance.
Rod Black and Brian Williams are equally bad as Jamie Campbell.
I say we start a bring back Faulds petition.

I was just thinking about the Dan Shulman days so it's funny this topic was brought up. Yes I miss him, he was an awesome, insightful commentator.

Dan + Buck was as good as it gets
I never liked Brian Williams as a baseball announcer, from my memory he was always stating the obvious when he's not making wrong calls and had troubles naming players.

Forgot to mention, Dan was very good when he was hosting Prime Time Sports with Jim Hunt on the FAN too. One of my favorite shows back in the days.

I never understood the fuss about broadcasters.
Yes, I acknowledge that Shulman was honest and genuine, and he made watching the game an enjoyable experience.
Having said that, I can't really distinguish between 99% of the broadcasters out there. They're all the same, with their lame attempts at humor and witty conversation. I never understood why people got so worked up about broadcasters. They're talking puppets.
