Jays rely on Towers to gain series split
Detroit (7-4) at Toronto (6-5), 1:07 p.m. PT

For the past two seasons, Blue Jays pitcher Josh Towers hasn't seemed to catch a break. In his first appearance this season, the right-hander was tagged with a loss despite a decent performance.
Coming off nine days' rest, Towers gave up six runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings against the Royals. The pitching line was ugly, but it masks how effective Towers was for the first five innings. Defensive lapses caused three of those runs to be unearned and a lack of run support did little to bail out Toronto's No. 5 starter.
Towers is now 1-10 in his last 13 starts with Toronto, dating back to the start of 2006. The 30-year-old will have to hope for better luck when he takes the mound on Sunday afternoon against Detroit's Nate Robertson. The Tigers lefty has been dominant so far this season, going 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA.
The Tigers staged an improbable, ninth-inning comeback on Saturday vs. Jays closer B.J. Ryan, who allowed four runs in Detroit's final at-bat en route to his second blown save of the season.

ANY1 KNOW WHERE I CAN CATCH THIS STREAMING?

wow our two best relievers (ryan and league) on dL - our already thin bullpen is now gross

remember when everyone said we would have to have an injry free season in order to compete?

lol Towers thinks there is two outs and throws the ball to first..

whe in fact there is one out and he could have had the easy double play

and crowd lets him hear it

I'm excited to see how Vermilyea does in his call-up. I think he can be a great reliever with his groundball tendencies.

Great win. Didn't watch most of this game but I'm obviously pleased with the outcome. Marcum did a very nice job closing the game off.

Huge win for the club. Towers' outing was especially important.

I hope this is a sign of things to come, ie. a team that battles hard to win games. We're hurting right now and the lack of depth surely isn't helping, but if we can play .500 ball for the next week or two, we just might be ok.

Helps that Hill and Rios have been swinging hot bats and the bottom of the lineup has been getting timely hits.

who's going to be the closer now?

Marcum or Frasor?

Frasor.

Because Frasor pitched yesterday, Gibbons said he wasn't available today. That's the only reason you saw Marcum.

Wow, Josh Towers. Im shocked really. Jays should've had 3 in this series, but I'll take 2.

I think he should go with Marcum again. Frasor just doesn't seem to be as confident or something but I really just don't trust him closing out games.

Well considering Gibbons had 2 other relievers (Accardo and Zambrano) warming up before Marcum was even done the first batter, I wouldnt be surprised if its closer by committee.
