Angels interested in Glaus

I say do it if JP can get a decent return. Glaus has a no trade clause but he'd waive it for sure to return to Cali

Angels seek Glaus, not Giambi
One first-base type (and I use the term "first-base type'' loosely since he's really a DH now) that won't draw any trade interest is Jason Giambi. The Yankees understand that despite rumors, there aren't teams clamoring to commit $40 million to an aging player with issues.

(Besides, if Giambi were to go to Anaheim, as was rumored, that would make his visits to the commissioner's office in New York quite a bit more inconvenient).

The Angels have little need for a designated hitter, anyway. That role may have to be filled by Garret Anderson once he returns from the disabled list in the next few days now that Reggie Willits, who has 18 runs and nine steals in May alone, has provided a spark since taking Anderson's spot in left field. The Angels really need a third baseman, which explains their interest in Colorado's Garrett Atkins (you can never have too many players named Garrett or Garret) and Toronto's Troy Glaus, assuming Glaus is made available by the star-crossed Blue Jays.

Glaus, the real power threat on the Angels' 2002 World Series-winning team (even ahead of the Rally Monkey), only left Anaheim because he sought a big long-term deal, which he got from Arizona, and the Angels were ready at the time to give third base to prospect Dallas McPherson, who is turning out to be among the more brittle players in recent memory.

The Angels have a lot of nice prospects, if we can get a top notch fielding and pitching prospect in return, I would do it.

Wonder if Angels are going to use the struggling Ervin Santana as trade bait for their pursuit of a slugger.

I would have to think he is on his way out of the "untouchable" category very shortly. The guy just cant win on the road.

So does that mean we don't want him?

No, I would still want Ervin. He's got good stuff and potential to be real good. But I feel that a fielding prospect would need to be involved.

Ervin got crazy stuff, I don't think the Angels will give up on him that fast.

I dont think its a matter of giving up on him. They likely feel a bit of pressure since their window to win is in the next 2-3 years with Vladi and a much lesser extent, Mattews, getting older.

They'd probably give up santana since they have crazy pitching with Lackey, Escobar, Weaver, and colon

Dealing Glaus for some top prospects is a nice start to rebuilding for next year.

If they want Glaus than I want Wood, since that is never going to happen I doubt a deal will be done. I don't want Santana because he rehabbed a shoulder problem and that is a big no no to me and they won't trade Weaver.

Trading Glaus is particularly devastating to the Blue Jays since we don't have any 3B or SS prospects worth a damn (no Santos doesn't count yet till he actually plays well in AAA). We got the kid we signed out of Venezuela Fuenmayor who is at least 5 years away and who ever we draft in a week Dominguez (3B), Ahrens (3B), or Kozma (SS). So if we were to trade Glaus we would need a good 3B prospect to come back the other way.
