Riccardi raises issues with Burnett
By Allan Ryan
It certainly wasn't his intention, as he'd later explain, but Blue Jay general manager J.P. Ricciardi got a few listeners up in arms over comments he made yesterday morning about A.J. Burnett on his weekly radio spot on the FAN 590.
As reported on Sportsnet.ca, Ricciardi suggested there might be a psychological aspect to Burnett's long litany of injuries and that, if this were the winter of 2005 again and he had the pitching staff he now has, he probably wouldn't sign Burnett to a five-year deal (worth $55 million U.S.).
Just what the world needs: a lot more Barry

Even though he's a pariah everywhere but in San Francisco, Barry Bonds is going to be spending a lot of time in our living rooms this month.
As the suspected drug cheat gets ever closer to breaking Hank Aaron's all-time home run record, television is gearing up to be there when it happens.
Rogers Sportsnet has added more games involving Bonds to its schedule, may add more and will break into coverage for every at-bat once he gets within one homer of Aaron's record of 755.
Griffin: Jays mailbag
By Richard Griffin
Q: Greetings. I have a couple of questions:
1. After watching (Alex) Rios gun down (Torii) Hunter last (week), where does he rank in the Jays best outfield arms of all time?
2. Speaking of way out in left field, do the Jays realistically take a shot at A-Rod next year? I know I'll get lambasted for this, but he has the option to become a free agent. With Marcum and McGowan as 3 and 4 next year and a hopefully healthy BJ Ryan, is it so far-fetched that the Jays opt for a real (shortstop) instead of pitching?

Short rest for Glaus
By Ken Fidlin
Third baseman Troy Glaus had his left foot re-examined yesterday and the Blue Jays may finally have caught a bit of good luck on the injury front.
Glaus fouled a ball off his left instep in Oakland on Wednesday and the fear was that there might have been some bone damage because of how quickly it swelled up.
But after a second look yesterday, the medical opinion is that nothing was broken and that Glaus will be able to "play to tolerance" according to general manager J.P. Ricciardi.
Reed is finally back, but will Jays follow?
By Ken Fidlin
Johnson has been out since the second week of the season after surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back, and is just one of 12 Blue Jays players who has been on the disabled list this year. The past couple of weeks, he has been working his way back into shape in the minor leagues, but general manager J.P. Ricciardi confirmed he would be activated tonight.
First baseman Lyle Overbay will also rejoin the team in about a week and, when A.J. Burnett is ready to come back from his shoulder strain, some time near the end of July, most of the walking wounded will have returned.

Riccardi calls out Burnett
By Robert Macleod
"We're concerned in the sense that we need him," Ricciardi said in an interview yesterday on The Fan 590 sports radio station in Toronto, when asked about Burnett's inability to avoid injury. "And as far as going out and taking the ball, when he takes the ball he's good. We've got no complaints. Every time he's been on the mound and every time he's pitched his numbers are good. You've seen him. It's a quality arm. It's just finding a way to keep him out there.
