Hey guys.
Dont take this as a complaint, as its made our Mod jobs much easier, but I really expected this board to be much busier than it has been so far (as in, I didnt expect the Brewers board to be doubling our post count).
The avid posters/regulars that we do have are all great contributors and I am glad you keep coming back. But I ask you, what do you think we can do to jumpstart our board? Do you have some friends out there who are big Jays/baseball fans that you can invite to RealGM? I am sure you do, I know I do. Any other ideas on how we can improve?
Please note, I have heard rumblings that RealGM is working on "inner-city links" for each page. For example, the Raptors board has a link to the Off Topic Canada board. Well with the upgrade it will also have a link to the Jays and Leafs board. The Celtics, Bruins, Patriots, Red Sox will all have links to each of the forums, etc. I think that will help. But until this time comes (it takes a heck of a lot of time and work for them to upgrade servers/boards of this magnitude), what can we do amongst ourselves? I am open to ideas and feedback is appreciated.

16 people have read this and no one has any opinions or thoughts? I guess I shouldnt be surprised, right?

I see what you mean. Well, I try to post in most thread made but I agree that sometimes even a big series doesn't mean people are gonna be around a lot.
I mean, most fans are probably very sceptical about the chances for the Jays to make the playoffs. While the Brewers fan are happy with their overacheiving team.

I need some time to think about it... hmmmm
Well there used to be a lot of Jays talk on the old Jays thread back in the day, but I think now people are just too lazy to find this forum and post.
Maybe for now we can ask the mods on the Raptors page or the Off topic board to put up a sticky thread with a link to this board so it would just be a few clicks away. Then again people can just bookmark it so that might not be a good idea.
Or we can somehow steal posters from other Jays forums on the net.

Maybe if someone wants to mass email Jamie Campbell and get him to talk about the forums on TV

I like that idea, however crazy it sounds. I'm sure we could get him to name-drop us.

I think it's slow because RealGM was/is known for basketball boards.
Add to that there is already some well established baseball/jays boards that have been around along time.
and it's gonna take some time to build a poster base.
I'm surprised a lot of the regulars from the Jays thread i.e. Tebor, Michael Bradley, Holmes, Teddd, Mak, etc. don't post more here more. All of those guys know their stuff and we used to have good convo on the old thread.
What the board needs is 3 or 4 sold posters who will post good stuff on a daily basis (i.e. daily papers, moneyball type thread, prospects). thread. this would attract new posters

I agree, this board does seem dead sometime. Maybe because most people have given up on the Jays. If they go on a roll, the board will triple the Yankees post count.

fan base just isn't the same for baseball like it is for basketball with the youth in Toronto

I agree that there simply aren't enough regular day-to-day posters. Of course, it's tough to blame anyone for that: sometimes the drive isn't there to post everyday.
I'm not sure. Quite frankly, I'm a much more experienced Jays viewer and I'm used to off-the-cuff discussions with friends who have a passing interest in the sport/team.
What are some of the other, older, more popular Jays boards? I'd be curious to see how their discussions work. It seems that around here we generally post on news and on the way a series is going. There's obviously depth and detail missing.
(And, no, if you tell me where the other boards are, I won't jump ship. I realgm.)

I agree that this does have something to do with it.
The Jays haven't won any more than, what, three games in a row? The team hasn't built up any momentum. We are the picture of mediocrity. And, yes, we've had injuries... but making excuses doesn't win games unfortunately.
OK!! BLUE JAYS!!!
LET'S!
PLAY!
BALLLL!!!

Honestly, I live in Ottawa, and there are no Jays fans here at all.... it's pretty sad

The Jays have a .500 roster, a middling farm system, and no realistic trade deadline decisions as everyone (other than Matt Stairs and Royce Clayton) is signed for next season. There's really not much to discuss. From my viewing of other forums, the topics that generate the most activity are Ricciardi-based threads. Unfortunately, it's getting to the point where everyone agrees that Ricciardi should be fired, so there's not much to discuss there either.
The Jays don't have the diehard fanbase that the Raptors do. Basketball is much more appealing to a younger audience, and that's why the Raptors board is full. Baseball needs to have a winning team in order to generate interest. I remember posting on the AOL boards in the late-90's. I was one of maybe 3 regular posters on the Jays board. It was dead, especially when the Jays were 27-36 in June of 1999. Then the Jays just went on an absolutely insane run (38-15) to leap Boston in the Wild Card race by mid-August, and the Jays board was one of the most active ones. That's just the way Blue Jays boards generally work.

I think this is the biggest issue. We are completely mediocre in every facet of our organization, from the top on down. There's really not a whole lot to talk about.
Now, Rios continuing to turn into a star and Snider getting to the bigs ASAP will do a lot to generate interest if not help us escape mediocrity.

What's the scoop on Snider? I just we just drafted him, but is he very highly touted as a top prospect?

I love the Jays and generally have contributed to this board, but when it moved I stopped just because of the roundabout way in which you have to get to it. If there was a direct link from the Raptors board I'd for sure be more likely to post.
Oh, and yes I am too lazy to bookmark it, and no that isn't likely to change.

Yes, very highly touted OF. Pre-draft his hitting stroke was compared to Jim Thome. Drafted and signed him out of high school, playing in Single A ball right now. Hit for the cycle this year, batting over .300 last I checked.

Considering Snider's age and ETA (probably 3 more years at least), I don't think he alone is enough to generate interest. Now, the Jays do have some other intriguing young prospects like Chavez, Ahrens, Fuenmayor, Tolisano, Eiland, Jackson, etc, but these guys are teenagers in rookie ball. They are further off than Snider, and don't have anywhere near the polish that Snider does.
There have been some intriguing internal developments at the big league level, like Rios busting out, and Hill proving to be an above average 2B, and the young pitching starting to produce (McGowan, Marcum, Janssen, Litsch, Accardo), but when the team itself is struggling to sustain .500, it's not going to do much.
I think Ricciardi has essentially put this team on a .500 "treadmill". As you said, it's an organization that is mediocre from top to bottom. When I heard Godfrey on Fan590 spouting off every excuse in the book to justify mediocrity and not doing anything at the deadline, it just rubs me the wrong way. This team needs a change, and it starts in the front office.

Front office overhaul is a must. [/season]
