Love the guy or hate the guy.....his vent after the loss to the ChiSox is exactly what most diehard Jays fans were/are thinking.

Here's a direct quote

"I just don't think that we consistently put ourselves in positions to make plays ahead of time," he continued. "I don't think we were heads up. I don't think we consistently show up as a coaching staff and as a team every day, and I think it shows sometimes."

Now....if Towers feels like the about the players/coaching staff....other players must feel the same.

I truly believe something is going to go down if the Jays end up getting swept by a team they easily should've beat this weekend.

The Jays lost on two homers by Dye and Owens....but you can easily take other points in the ball game and point to them aswell.

In the article he lashes out at Gibby(Giddy) and feels that they gave/give away alot of outs.

Here's another quote that probably sums up John Gibbons...

Prior to Uribe's game-changing double, Tallet induced a ground ball off the bat of Podsednik. Stairs, who was filling in at first base for a sick Lyle Overbay, misplayed the ball before forcing Podsednik out at first, missing a chance to potentially turn a double play.

"He bobbled it. What are you going to do?" Gibbons said.

What an attitude. From the replay, it was a well hit ball....but perfectly playable and even with Scott Podsednik running, they still had time to turn it.

The "oh well" kind of attitude is why the Jays are here in the first place.

"Oh well, we lost another 1 run game"

"Oh well, we left 15 runners on base, we lost by 1, we're just in a slump"

Sorry Gibbons...but I think it's time to get canned....but that's just my opinion.

i think gibbons is too easy on this players
giving dayoffs like its nothing
we need a strict experienced manger that knows what he's doing

speed is lacking in this team
we are too goddamn slow

i hate to say it but we gotta trade reed or rios
to get a good leadoff guy that can run and a starting pitcher

i think its best to trade stairs to get sumthin outta him
we can always re-sign him in the offseason

trading glaus must be done this man is going down in a hurry

as for wells if hes a bust, lets hope the yanks trade for him in the future

What's wrong with Toronto?

Well, for starters, unless we're crushing the ball, we suck. We're horrible at controlling runners on the basepaths, both offensively and defensively.

We have almost no small-ball game, no running game at all... Gibbons doesn't manage the offense particularly well and it's showing in our inconsistent bursts of production followed by long lulls.

I don't think we need to trade Rios, I mean, just let him run... he can. He's quick, let him TRY.

As far as Sai Young... Glaus, "going down in a hurry?" He's still got 15 homers and 48 RBIs, man. He's on pace for 29 homers which, while not as good as he often produces, is still a Joe Carter-like season. A 30/90 season is good production from your power hitter and that's where Glaus is headed, barring a late-season burst. He's also hitting for the second-best batting average of his career and is posting the third-best OBP of his career, so I wouldn't really say he's going down.

He, like everyone else in the Jays' lineup, has endured a slump that was exacerbated by Gibbons' unwillingness to mess with the strategy of the team's offense and over-reliance on the longball. When no one around you is hitting terribly well, it makes it really difficult to get hitter's counts.

So it was Hillenbrand and Lilly last year. Now its Towers this year. Can't wait to see who he pisses off next.

our lineup is too inconsistent

I hate Gibbons' in-game management. I thought as a rookie manager, he had good potential. We have some players with good speed (Wells, Rios, Hill, Johnson), but its an asset he fails to ever use. And a lot of his pitching changes are mind-boggling. And he does a poor job of holding people accountable.

I may be late to the party, but Gibbons is starting to not feel like the guy to get er done in TO.

i agree, Gibbons is too 1D...counts on his longball, we all knew that we wouldnt get a homer every night, we all knew we were not gonna score 10 every night but this is pathetic, every team needs a bit of small ball, they need the little stuff, its what gets things started...i cant see gibbons as a suitable bench boss for us

I agree that we have to get rid of Gibbons. He just looks like he doesn't care most nights.

What do you guys think of Brantley? He did some good for the team this year, but ultimately some of the batters' problems have to fall on him. I think it's time for him to go as well.

Ultimately I think they are just slowly grooming Ernie Whitt to be the future manager of the team.

Gibbons, JP, you name it. It's all bad.

The basic point is that the Jays organization as a whole has pretty much settled into the attitude that they are a perennial .500 team, a perennial second (or third) place AL East team.

Problems with the Jays aside, I don't think its up to Towers to go to the media with his feelings about the situation. No one threw him under the bus when he shat the bed last year with a horrible season- I mean he was 2-10 with an 8.42 ERA and now he's still under .500 and the ERA is better, but he's no Cy Young.

Guys need to keep this stuff in the club house IMO, or if they go to the media it should be someone who has earned the right to make comments, like Halladay for instance.

In an article in today's TOR Star, the Jays made a lineup gaffe where McDonald was supposed to be the SS but Clayton was the SS. Gibbons put Clayton as the SS, when it was supposed to be Johnny Mac.

With that said, Clayton was at the centrefold of the defensive lapses on the field....and I'm very sure that this might be the reason why Towers was taking his anger out with the media.

I understand what you're saying but sometimes, if there is a problem, it has to be voiced or else the problem will persist. If it is the case of a player whining because he has a bad attitude like Hillenbrand, then I'd tend to rather him keep his mouth shut. However, if it's Hillenbrand one time, Lilly the other time and Towers this time, then maybe there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

Just because Towers was treated well by the organization and isn't a CY pitcher, doesn't mean that he shouldn't voice his feelings. If Gibbons' managing is a problem, the more bad press he gets, the more likely he'll be let go. In that case, Towers' explosion could lead to some neccessary changes.

Plus, if Towers' commentary leads to some bad feelings in the clubhouse and some losses, at this point, I'd rather the Jays tank it. It will make Ricciardi look stupid for spending all that money and nothing coming out of it. Then maybe he'll be looked at with a little more scrutiny too.
