Tonight's game was a picture-perfect example of why this team is not making the playoffs.

We've had great pitching for most of the season but when they falter the offence doesn't have what it takes.

Watching the games on Sopcast and hearing the opposing teams' announcers talk about the Jays is depressing: "This team is built to hit the ball out of the park. They don't run well and they don't stop runners. They do have good starters and a solid bullpen." Then we go out and leave 8 runners in scoring position...

For the life of me, why would Gibbons use Tallet instead of Downs in the 7th. The game was tied, momentum has swung and yet he subs in Tallet to pitch to Swisher and Cust.

Swisher, who hits over .300 from the right side and Cust, who has a higher OBP facing lefties. I personally would've went to Downs since he has better numbers against both.

As for the bats.....why doesn't this team swing at balls in good hitting counts. 2-0, 3-1, 1-0.....All those counts, other than Wells and Rios, guys sit there and look at striaght fastballs or get em over curves. I think they're being far too selective at the plate and should just let loose.

Also, when the counts isn't in there favour, it seems like they forget how to shorten up the swing and just hit the ball where it's pitched. Everybody on the team has a difficult time with this. 0-2, 1-2, 2-2, 3-2....Jays just don't hit well.

I'm glad i wasn't home to watch tonight's game or i think it would have sent me over the edge.

I don't know why this season has been so frustrating to watch when compared to other bad/mediocre seasons. There have been some bad seasons in the past 13 years but this has to rank up there as one of the most difficult to follow. I think some of it has to do with the fact that the team on paper isn't a bad team, but they are just underachieving like crazy.

Damn didn't realize the game today was in the afternoon. I could have gone cos i had nothing to do... but after seeing the score and the way they lost, I'm glad i didn't go.

AJ pitched good but they gave up 3 unearned runs

Off on the road now which probably won't be pretty. I just hope we can finish the season over .500

How does a team go through a stretch like this. So many errors that cost us the game. Especially with players that are usually good if not great defenders. So frustrating. At the end of the day we just don't have it. We can't hit with runners in scoring position, sometimes cant even get runners in from 3rd with 1 out.

I like Gibons but can we possibly go into the next year with him as a manager?

How is an easy question to answer really, its the way the team is constructed. Its constructed to rely on winning by the long ball. When the roster was formed there was no attention to defence (unless you count signing a 37 year old short stop not named Vizquel), running, or doing the little things that actually win you games in September and October.

And no, Gibbons is not the kind of coach who is going to take you to the next level.

I have to eat crow on my prediction AJ would be inconsistent he looked great today unfortunately our defense let him down.

We really need some athleticism on this team; speed, defense, quality baserunning, contact hitting.

As many have said, there is a huge reliance on the longball, last season we had a lot of people who were hitting a higher average.

Tale of the tape? The Jays have used the disabled list 14 times, compared to the A's 21.

The Jays have lost 798 games to injury. The A's have lost 964 man-games. The Jays are counting Davis Romero and John Thomson for 193 of those missed games.

The A's low point of the season was a 49-57 record on July 30. They are clawing their way back to .500, but, despite what Swisher says, have run out of time to think about a run at the World Series.

Ah, but next year, with the closer back to health, the No.2 starter healthy all year and the third baseman and the rest of the offence healthy and performing the way it should ... Hey, wait a second

I think this team needs a veteran coach, who can light a fire under the team's collective ass. It's as if after that Ted Lilly incident last year, he's toned it down.

He just seems to be too passive in his managing. The game starts and he takes his place in the corner of the dugout, same expression on his face. Rarely does he step on to the steps or do we see him conversing with the players. I might be reading too much into his body language, but it doesn't seem like he cares.

His lack of managing skills are a whole different story...
