If we win 10 straight...
We still got a chance.
As George Michael would say, "Gotta have faith".
Peace

Is there EVER hope? How can we even compete when we're in the same division as the Red Sox and Yankees? Even if one of those teams suffer a major injury, they'll just acquire some talent by the trade deadline. It seems like their farm system is even better than the Jays as well, which is a shame since the Jays should have the better draft positions than either of those teams.

The season was over before the All-Star break; the Jays' offense has been anemic all season and that's not going to change significantly.
Besides, how many times in Toronto's history have the Jays won 10 in a row within a single season and not counting spring training? It certainly isn't going to happen the way we've been hitting or the way we've been playing defense...
Or really, with the way we try to play offense and our complete inability to check runners or, *gasp*, get them out without a ground ball.
The Jays are too flawed a team to make the wild card as they stand.

Why does McDonald "have to go"?
Because he's a black hole in the batting order. If we wanted defense with zero offense, we should have kept Orlando Hudson or Cesar Iztruis (sp?)who happen to be younger and better defenders. MacDonald can perhaps remain as a back up who never sees the field but as the starting shortstop? Come on, man.

You realize that we haven't had Cesar Izturis since.... ****, I don't even know... did he ever play for us this millennium? It's absurd to bust out with a 'We should have kept Cesar around" knock to the current team. Besides, Johhny Mac is batting better than him this year! While I love Odog and I think he could make a dynamite shortstop, who would give us any pop from third? Troy can still go off for 35+ next year.
I'm tired of people blasting Thomas too. He has been our second best offensive player, and he's been on fire for the second half.
The way I see it, Wells can't be any worse, and Rios and Hill should continue to develop... the offense has nowhere to go but up.
I'm not saying I wouldn't welcome a shortstop or preferably a left fielder (If I was JP, I'd make Bobby Abreu my number 1 target), but I don't think it's necessary that we overhaul the entire team.

Johnson, McDonald, Overbay, Zaun will hopefully get replaced.
RF: Rios (Rios is not leaving Toronto, he's our best player and will only get better)
CF: Wells (Wells is injured, and had an off year. I have no doubt that he'll bounce back and give us a year like last)
LF: Johnson (I really don't like him as our lead off. We need more speed and consistent 300 hitter)
3B: Glaus (hopefully he;ll come back and give us 30+ HRs and 100+ RBIs next season, if not trade him for some good prospects)
2B: Hill (He's going to keep developing and is our future at 2nd)
1B: Overbay (Overbay isn't that great anymore, would really prefer Stairs starting over him. Hopefully he gets packaged with a reliever for something good)
SS: McDonald (As much as I love Johnny Mac, he's got no offense. Defence can be replaced, but we need an SS who's got a pretty good bat)
C: Zaun (He has a horrible arm, and his offense is worse than ever)
DH: Thomas (He's doing great right now, and will hopefully stay in Toronto).
Starting Pitchers:
Halladay
Burnett
Marcum
McGowan
Litsch/Chacin/???
The rotation looks great, I think they'll all be great next year.
Bullpen:
Accardo
Ryan
Wolfe
Jannsen
Frasor
Downs
Towers
Tallet
Move Tallet and Frasor for something. And we've got an awesome bullpen.
I'm really excited about next April. Hopefully JP doesn't screw up.

I was just looking at the remaining schedule and I see that the Jays have:
6 games against Baltimore
6 games against Tampa Bay -> most of these 12 games should be winnable
3 against the Red Sox and 1 against Detroit. -> tough games and lucky to win 2
7 games left against the Yankees ....
I know it seems really unlikely but on paper the Jays still have a chance... ok i'm reaching a bit but as long as they win the games against the bad teams, and beat up on the Yanks then there might be a possibility...

Way to kill the Team...
Its not me that's killing the team, I just try to be a fan that sees the reality of the situation. The reality is, as long as JP is our GM, our team is going to tread water. And JP is signed through 2010 now, and Godfrey wont fire him.
