If Arod leaves the Yankees could they big in big trouble next year? The way Yankees team is now , no way would they be in the playoffs without A Rod.

It'll be impossible to replace him regardless and their pitching is not getting better. If A Rod goes to the Cubs its a big win for us. What is Chicago thinking though, another crazy deal.

There is no way Chicago does anything big until their ownership situation is solidified. I definitely think the Yankees are not nearly as good without ARod next year. Giambi is basically finished, Abreau continues his downhill slide, as is Damon. You have to wonder when Matsui or Posada start declining. Their pitching will be OK. Remember Joba was a starter, though their bullpen has issues. But its the Yankees, they ALWAYS find ways to keep themselves in the playoff race. Always.

You have to count the Yankees in by default in the sweepstakes for Andruw Jones, Torii Hunter and/or the inevitable trade of Miguel Tejada. Landing any one of those is a significant boost.

Abreu may no longer be in his prime but he still remains one of the better hitting outfielders. Matsui and Posada have shown no signs of declining so how much can you really bet on them declining next year based on age? They still have one of the best up the middle pair in Jeter and Cano.

Chien-Ming Wang is an emerging ace and the Yankees have their next generation of home grown pitchers in Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes.

The Yankees wouldn't be the Yankees if they didn't retool like they always do.

I'm sure the Yanks would decline a little as Holmes said but ye, they will find a way to get some more great players and continue to be at the top of the division.
